This is said harmless but it over took my tank at one time I hate it, I'd recommend removing the rock with it & removing every bit of it then thoroughly rinse the rock before trying to put it back in your tank. This stuff will spread fast if you try to remove it in your main tank.
 
I had a bunch growing in my tank early in the tank's life. It eventually just died off on its own, never to be seen again.

I have had this in my reef tank for more than 15 yrs it comes and goes and has never taken over or became a problem whatsoever, plus they are beautiful scattered in the tank. They are easy to remove from spots you don't like them being also.
