Taqpol's DIY LED prototype build, detailed pictures, and PAR readings!

Touch the pre tinned soldering iron to the solder on one side of the pad: Move the solder away and feed it in at a good clip until you get a nice mound: I used a 30 watt soldering iron for everything I did today. I decided to use stugray's dimming circuit method as it did seem easier to me...

Taqpol's DIY LED prototype build, detailed pictures, and PAR readings!

I got a lot done today, but like all of these projects I did think i would get even farther. Marked out the LED placement, I used roughly 1.75" between LEDs and 2" between rows: Blue LEDs in place for a sense of scale: I then drilled 1/8" holes through the heatsink on either side of where...

Taqpol's DIY LED prototype build, detailed pictures, and PAR readings!

I actually started this build thread on another forum but i wanted to go ahead and post it here as well! Most of these posts are direct quotations from the old thread and might not mae sense out of context, so if there is any questions please let me know! In May I am going to be moving to North...

Taqpol's 120 gallon All in Stand Reef Build

Well, I was finally able to borrow a PAR meter! I was actually surprised by how low these numbers seem, especially since I have been getting such good growth and color out of all of my SPS. Two thoughts, both my reflectors and the bulbs themselves are filthy so it would be interesting to see...

Thank you! I think islands give a tank a lot of depth. Too bad this tank is coming down soon, but at least its coming down so that it will be reincarnated in a custom 220 gallon after I move to North Carolina in May. In that tank I think I will go with three islands, one big one on the left, a...

I also took two under water videos! Its really hard to hold the camera steady, but I thought these two turned out ok. <param name="allowFullScreen"...

The Sargassum trigger is by far my favorite fish! I've never seen him look sideways at any fish, including the tangs, yet everyone know to leave him alone. I have to shrimp in with him as well and he has been a model citizen. Both my shrimp stay in their own cave areas, though. He did bite me...

Chevron Tang: He has had this one spot of HLLE siunce I got him months ago and can't seem to shake it. I have no stray voltage and he gets fed vitamin enriched food, so I have to believe its coming from my activated carbon I run 24/7... Half-Black Mimic Tang: Spotted Mandarin...

Probably the last FTS's you will ever see of this tank.... Its a good thing but sad at the same time. Oh, I also figured out how to automate a border/watermark with Photoshop. I think it looks pretty snazzy.

One of the sad parts about selling off a system is selling the corals fish you like but know that it would not be smart to ship them/you don't really need them. On the plus side, you can make a lot of money selling coral frags! I'm definitely going to need it as I am upgrading to an APEX...

EuroReef Skimmer upgrade question, Potential new skimmer

Wasn't it at this years MACNA when they had the one speaker who demonstrated that most skimmers performed the same within their bioload class and style? From reading reviews it seems like the Royal-Exclusiv is a lot quieter then comparable skimmers, but this is not as big of an issue for me...

EuroReef Skimmer upgrade question, Potential new skimmer

Do you think SWC makes the best skimmer for the money right now? What other companies would you look at? Does modifying the EuroReef make any sense? Would adding an aspirating pump in the configuration I mentioned make any sense and would it actually increase skimming efficiency?

EuroReef Skimmer upgrade question, Potential new skimmer

Hi all, I currently have a recirculating EuroReef CS8-3. It is external of my 120 gallon SPS tank and fed by a throttled back Mag 5 (smallest pump I had on hand). Its definitely an older skimmer, so heres a picture: I think this skimmer is rated for about 300 gallons of high bioload, but it...

    Show me your FISH :)

Which trigger pic? My personal favorite is the one with the reflection because I took it with the underwater enclosure my fiancee got me. Taking good fish pictures is definitely one of the harder shots to get in a fish tank (along with the surprisingly difficult FTS), but I've picked up a few...

Well, I would like to let everyone that has been following this thread know that I plan on selling pretty much my entire setup in preparation for my move and tank upgrade in North Carolina. As of right now the only things I do not want to sell are: -Skimmer -Pair of Vortechs -Small cube tank...
