    pump suggestions

Looking for a new pump for 90 gal mixed reef. What do you use on on your tank for main circulation. Had planned on purchasing a quiet one 4000 or 6000 model, but from another post (equipment forum) I'm not sure if this will be enough turn over per hour. What do you use on your similar size...

    quiet one pump/flow questions

Thanks for the link, much appreciated. I feel stupid as I am now confused. The 4000 model the total losses are 8.83 feet of head pressure, or 3.81 PSI. with a flow rate of 274 GPH. Is this 274 gph loss off the 0 head pressure, or the actual gph the pump will circulate? Same for 6000 model...

    quiet one pump/flow questions

I'm looking to purchase a Quiet One pump for my 90 gal tank. Model 600 12.2ft at 0 head pressure, 1506 gph, or the 4000 10ft 0 head pressure 1017 gals per hour. I hope I figured this correctly, but to determine the number of times the pump will circulate all water in the system i took and...

I like the natural look of this tank. It's nice to see a tank that doesn't have rock stacked to the canopy and where the fish can actually swim over the rock work and not thru crevices.

    Metal Halide Help

Usually the rule is to put one halide bulb every two feet apart of your tank length, but in your case I believe one would work as I don't believe an Oceanic 38 gal tank is over 3 ft long. I may be wrong. The bulb should be at least 8" above the water line. A tank height of 24" or more should...

I like the fact that you are allowing macroalgae to grow in your display tank. Great place for pods etc to breed and feed the fish population.

I like tanks with lesser amounts of rock. Plenty of open space and room for growth, circulation and swimming! Nice job!

I like the looks of just a few larger colonies of corals. I think the placement during your first stages of the tank were good choices. I think your system looks more natural in this regard! Just my opinion. Nice looking tank!

What size tank to start with?

First question you should consider is what livestock you want to keep? Keep that in mind and stick to the plan. Size? again this depends on what you want to keep. A good size to start out with is a 75 gal tank. A 75 has good length, depth and is usually easy to find in most reputable...

    Water changes for a 90g

I do the following. Premix water/salt. Add heater to container to equal temp in aquarium. Use powerhead with a connected hose (discharge end) to remove water from aquarium. Use the same method to replenish water removed.

    reef compatible fish/star polyp update.

Sixline wrasse are amazing fish. Intricate eye movement like a lizard. They can be shy at first, but once established they will spend more time in the open. They like to swim in and out of the rock work too, which is fun to watch. The other two fish you have mainly stay in the main water...
