    New aquarium setup today

Well I moved all my stuff over to the new aquarium. Looks much better with all that rock. About 2 to 2.5 lbs per gallon in there... Here are some pics. Now the stand was made from wood I had lying around at the house and stain and poly laying around from my kitchen remodel. Only cost was...

How Long Can you Have LR Out of Water?

Go buy a 45 gallon brute trash can.. stick all your rock and most your water in there... don't move your tank with water in it!!!!!! I moved mine with 2 inches of water above the sand line and it really scared me. :)

    Getting out or downsizing...

Thanks for the help.. I think I might go for the 50 gallon tank with ATO. my skimmer is listed in the diy forums... http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25253&page=2 post 23 and 27... I would think that would skim enough - I have a sedra9000 nw on that thing recirculating.

    Getting out or downsizing...

Yeah but I just need something easier to manage. Heck if I sell the stand and 125 for a few hundred I'd be happy. Just keep my rock/sand/fish/equipment and put on the 50. If I did go with the 50 gallon what fish would you guys get rid of?

    Getting out or downsizing...

My bioload too much for a 50 gallon? I'm wanting to minimize the amount of water to change.

    Getting out or downsizing...

Well I'm not doing anything yet... Fish are doing fine but these nitrates are really pissing me off. Too much water to change. Is the bioload too much for my rock? I know people say length is good for tangs. Mine isn't really too big at the moment. I've had him for 3-4 years. Oh and I use...

    Getting out or downsizing...

Recently have become very busy and hard for me to keep up with such a large tank when concerning volume of each change. I have had my share of uphill battles with nitrate and have done several water changes but weeks later it is way back up where it was before the change. My current tank is a...

    5-gallon bucket skimmer

Yeah it has been running for about two weeks now. Starting to get some nice nasty stuff out of it. I was running a bit too dry but currently working on something not too wet either. Very funky stuff. I took off the cup and the wife said "Ewwww Whats that smell. " seems to be pulling out a...

    Tank stand (woodworking)

"Metal. Steel. It's cold. Ugly. Wood is warm. Clean. Provided by nature. To see a piece of furniture take shape. It's like watching a child grow ..." - Calitri (Gone in 60 Seconds) Seemed fitting :)

Live Rocks turning black in established aquarium.

Didn't see the paint chip anywhere... maybe dust from activated carbon? Well I did my water tests at LFS. 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrite 40 Nitrate. Will be doing more water changes.. odd because last time I checked it was at 15. Guess my test kit is buggy.

Live Rocks turning black in established aquarium.

I used the basic krylon satin finish for plastics.. fusion. It was in the tank about a week before anything. Put in new lights and the next day black bits on rocks.. etc. I'll do a 50 gallon change today. All the inhibitants seem fine. They exibit no heavy breathing that I can see...

Live Rocks turning black in established aquarium.

Hey! Well I think its my krylon paint but I'm not 100 percent. The pvc in my tank that was not painted is getting black dots and pixels all over it plus my rock has turned rather black, especially the tonga? Anyone have krylon paint do this? It was dried for about 12 hours and seemed to be...

    DIY Stand Remodel

New Pics - Drilled Tank with surface skimmers. I think it turned out fairly effective... Water never goes over all the eggcrate. Just about 1/3 of a square on the outside rim of the pvc the water is using. I bet I could pull a lot more GPH through the sump if needed. Bulkheads are 1 1/2"...

    DIY Stand Remodel

Last comment was directed at your signature dhnguyen. I had to look at what Carpe Narem meant. Well I've done it again. Changed my mind and drilled my tank center brace for a wave2k and bulkheads on each end. Will have pics up later. The overflows were a learning and fun experience. Oh...

    Looking For Drill Bit

Good idea with the drill bits. I went the rotozip and tile bit route.. took FOREVER, and my holes aren't snug. Have to use some silicone between the glass and threads of the bulkhead to seal it nice and tight. Oh well.. live and learn. Took me 1 hr for first hole... 45 minutes for second...

    5-gallon bucket skimmer

I never really thought about the neck size. I went down to walmart and picked up a larger diameter container for $1.50. Neck is much larger in the collection cup. It measures about 5 1/2 inches now. The largest twist connection I could find at Home Depot was the 3" which is at the top of the...
