    ROWAphos Usage-how much?

I'm a little confused. The ROWAphos is sold in 250ml, 1/2 liter, 1 liter packages, but the amount to use is 1 gram per gallon. Isn't gram a weight measure and liters a volume? So how much of this stuff do I use. The obvious answer is 90 grams, but I don't have a scale to measure that. I...

I guess I'm missing something. 1.025 is fine Beeba

    diy phosphate media reactor

Okay all you diy gurus. I made this "reactor" for ROWAphos and would like you to critique the design. Mojoreef had given me a link to an insump model that was reasonably priced, but I don't have room. Will this work and what problems might I encounter? The intake tube goes down the middle to...

    ROWA phos questions

Thanks Mike, that was a great explanation. I've been blasting the rocks, but I'll start doing it more often (and more thoroughly)and plan on a sand bed cleaning this weekend. Thanks for the link. I was trying to figure out if I could make one similar to the TLF model, but I like that model...

    ROWA phos questions

Don, when you say fluidized, do you mean it should be suspended in the water and moving? If so, then in needs to be "loose" in the canister, right?

Mike, it is higher in the dsb and algae areas.

    pH help please

Carib Sea ARM. Which brings up another interesting "read the directions" issue. Most info I've read about setting up calcium reactors recommends an effluent pH of 6.5 to 6.9; however, the ARM container says 7.5. I've got mine set close to 7.0. The effluent alk is almost 20 dkH, so I guess...

    ROWA phos questions

I had posted in another thread that I was successfully keeping bryopsis in check by maintaining high levels of alk (14-16 dkH) and magnesium (1400-1500). It was suggested to me that this might not be a good idea in the long run and I should try to determined the cause of the problem. Okay, so...

    pH help please

Okay, I recalibrated by pH monitor and oops  my pH is fine. Nikki suggested that I read the instructions  and sure enough, your supposed to recalibrate it monthly :eek2: Okay so that mystery is solved, the calcium reactor is cleaned, refilled and running and my calcium seems to be...

    pH help please

Mike, thanks again. I've kept my alk high to try to combat bryopsis. A couple of months ago it was getting out of hand, so I raised my alk to 16 and magnesium to 1400-1500, and the bryopsis receded substantially. As it is still lurking, I've tried to maintain these higher levels to keep it in...

    pH help please

Thanks Mike I will do that. Should I also stop dosing B-Ionic? When I got home tonight my pH was 8.60 so I immediately turned the lights off. My calcium is 400, but my alk has dropped to 7 dkH, which I believe is okay. I continued to dose kalk because my calcium was dropping so rapidly. I...

    pH help please

Hi Nikki, I think it has been 8.20-8.25 in the a.m. My kalk is usually still dripping in the morning when I check it. The lights don't go on until noon and since I'm usually at work I'm not sure if it goes any lower or when it hits 8.5+. I got home a little early yesterday at about 5 pm and...

    pH help please

Let me preface this by saying I'm not a chemistry whiz. Before I posted, I read several of the Randy Holmes Farley articles in the chemistry links--some of it I understand--a lot I don't. That said--Sunday the feed pump to my calcium reator died and my media turned to mush, so I shut it down...

    acro id

Thanks Charlie. Nikki, that's so out of character for you   Well those are both interesting possibilities. Both are staghorns, right? I guess I didn't think it was a staghorn because it's more compact than the other staghorn I have. Maybe it will become more obvious as it grows...

    acro id

Reading through the descriptions in the ID Gallery confused me a bit, as I don't understand the difference between axial and radial corallites. Can someone explain, please? One of the features that I thought might provide a clue, is that the tips are "cupped" I hadn't noticed that any of my...

    acro id

I recently purchased a "bali" acro that I'm having difficulty identifying. I've spent quite a bit of time looking through the ID section. I thought it was a valida at first, the decided maybe nasuta, and now I'm leaning toward secale. This pic shows the growth form

How do you measure specific gravity?

You really can't just taste it. You have to drink a whole pint to be sure. Start with a siphon in the main tank to acquire the proper taste.

How do you rate your flow?

How about med to high??? I can't find that button. Actually I was gonna say high until I read Scooterman's post. How many gallons is that tank? I have approx 900 from my return, 900 on a closed loop, and another 500ish from my chiller closed loop and canister filter (ROWAphos) for...
