Thanks guys, I'll give it a shot...

    Ozone use....

I was assuming that Kevin meant to not use a "T" in that scenario....

    Ozone use....

I was thinking about that, but thought the skimmer efficiency may drop too much......

using a Plenum in a aquarium

My bad, wrong guy Eng... I can't say that I've read much of Eng... Curt, love the post, esp. re: Dr Ron.... As far as CSDs, I can not state how awesome they are. Obvously for a display tank, it makes it tough. I've one (30 gallon), soon to be two( 20 - 30 gal), on an sps grow out ~ 100...

using a Plenum in a aquarium

Delbeek took it down after three + years as it was a research tank. Dr Jaubert, why wouldn't he, Calfo yes, Sprung yes, me, yes :)

    Ozone use....

Yeah, it must be from the "T"... I was using a EuroReef RS80, which has holes on the top of the cup. I had set a media bag filled with carbon on top. In the sump there was another media bag filled with carbon.... I'm using ozone safe tubing :).... that's the only thing I can think of?!? I...

using a Plenum in a aquarium

Curt, Thanks for the info.... I agree, DSBs and plenums function differently than "comparables" from the oceans.... I totally agree that Dr Ron was way off on his sentiments comparaing seagrass beds to plenum/DSBs... But what we (aquarists) do via protein skimmers, DSBs/plenums, powerheads, etc...

24in Tall tank would 2 250w Mogul MH w/Ice Cap Ballasts work for SPS?

As with any lighting system, reflectors are of equal importance as ballasts. If you have great ballasts/bulbs, but crappy reflectors, the result with be poor PAR and light dispersion/penetration. With lumenarcs, you'd be able to keep most if not all sps ( ok may be not humilis, gemmiferas and...

using a Plenum in a aquarium

There was a link on the first page. If you have RA1 or RA3, they talk about plenums. Also called the Jaubert or Monacco method, even Natural Nitrate Reduction method. Created and patented by Dr Jean Jaubert of the Monacco Aquarium. It's similar to a DSB whereby a 4" sand bed sits on over a...

using a Plenum in a aquarium

No, we're not talking about undergravel filters... Plenum systems, in an aquarium, not a car.

    Is 400watts too much for a 120?

Get lots of fans or a chiller. Also I hope your home will have good ventilation if you have a winter season - humidity can cause expensive problems.

Relative Importance of Factors in Coloration

Nutrient levels will play an even greater role in coral colorization. If you get those close to NSW, your colors will be great. Look at Palettas book, people get great color from 6.5k bulbs to 20k bulbs. Get bulbs that you like, and work to lower your nutrient levels as measured on hanna or...

    Acropora bleach from bottom up

That's new, not including pH when talking about Ca and alk?!?! I guess it's only an issue when trying to maintain higher levels.. For example, try to maintain alk of 10dKH and Ca 450ppm with a pH > 8.4. Ca and alk are so highly saturated abioatic precipitation is highly likely.

I did the "T" in the air intake of the skimmer, even with the ozone unit at the lowest setting I smelled ozone....

using a Plenum in a aquarium

Incidentally, many including Dr Jaubert, Calfo, Delbeek, Sprung andany others (including myself) successfully used plenums for over 7 years.....

using a Plenum in a aquarium

Wow talk about anecdotal evidence. Dr Jean Jaubert does use more of a gravel-sized substrate for his systems. However, Delbeek had set up a large system at the Waikiki Aquarium that employed smaller grained sand and was quite successful at maintaining near NSW nutrient levels despite the...

    Ozone use....

Kevin, Do you have link to your reactor design? I'm not that interested in using ozone in my skimmer - I use a mix of downdrafts and becketts on multiple systems and feel that I would just end up ejecting a lot of the ozone back into the carbon rather than getting some decent contact time...

Thanks, my inquiry is out of curiosity than anything. It seems like ozone is one of those cyclical movements within the hobby...

    Ozone use....

Kevin, I've seen in a couple of threads that you recommend ozone. Do you run it in a reactor or in your skimmer? Just curious. Thanks

    acro horrida brownish

What are your params? Like Kevin said, if it's under a 250w halide, it's most likely not lighting related.
