    Toadstool Leather Placement

Just for an update the toadstool has finally started to shed its slime and hopefully I see some polyp extension when the lights come on in a few minutes.

    Toadstool Leather Placement

I think the flow in the tank is very good. I have the 2 Korelia 2's that move the water. By watching the xenia they have periods where they do not move hardly at all and other times where they get a decent amount of flow. The way I have them pointed is producing nice random flow in the tank...

    Toadstool Leather Placement

The toadstool came from a tank with 250W SE MH's at the same depth. I have also cut the photoperiod to half of the tank it came from to allow for proper acclimation to the tank. This has been sufficient in the past do you think I should take off an hour or two just to be sure on the...

    Toadstool Leather Placement

I had a few general toadstool leather question. First, if ~1/2 of the stalk is touching rock will this be okay and allow the leather to attach. I am just worried about stagnant water and tissue damage from the rock. Second, I bought the leather and it was slimmed this was on saturday and it...

    Alternate Calcium Reactor Help

So to sum that I up, you are not going to get the energy needed to break apart those ionic interactions out of a simple sonicator. You might be able to disrupt the interaction with a very intense pulse of sound but like DonW pointed out even with his high energy probe he was not able to break...

    Alternate Calcium Reactor Help

The vaporizers have just enough energy to break the intermolecular hydrogen bonds that hold water in the liquid state and allow them to become gas thus humidifying the air. As for CaCO3 you have a full ionic interaction that is much more stable and thus takes much more energy to break.

    Anemone ID please

My first guess is a bleached out red bubble tip anemone.

    Anemone Bleaching ?

Yes, my anemone looks a lot like that just a darker brown. The tips are only starting to look like your anemone. By the way good looking anemone :D

    Anemone Bleaching ?

Yes fragging anemones is very much possible and actually quite easy. A filet knife right down the center. The key is to do a quick cut with a sharp blade no sawing action. A healthy, well fed anemone will be able to be cut every 2-3 weeks and recover a majority of its biomass in that time. I...

    Anemone Bleaching ?

In terms of propagation I am talking about cutting them in half with a knife. My plans are to condition the anemone for a minimum of 3 months and then cut away. I hope to get to a point where I will be able to frag the anemone every 2-3 weeks. I do agree that spliting can be a response to...

    The 4 x 40W NO lighting is for 55 - 75 gallon tanks

    Anemone Bleaching ?

Keeping an anemone in a reef aquarium is by no means optimum for propagation purposes. I would agree that keeping an anemone in a well established aquarium is great but you cannot propagate an anemone this is not happy, healthy, and stable. Having said this, there are many people out there...

    Anemone Bleaching ?

Thanks Nick, Since the last post the anemone seems to be coloring up again. This seems really strange to me. About half of what I thought to be bleaching has turned brown again and the rest is starting to turn green. Hopefully I was just freaking out and it is just starting to color up. I...

    Anemone Bleaching ?

Also I dont know that it matters but the anemone has nice bubble tips. I have read that a stressed, unhappy BTA will look stringy but the anemone has huge bubble tips and seems to be very happy. Will anemones seem happy even through a bleaching event.

    Anemone Bleaching ?

Sorry, Yes it is a BTA and no it is not panning for light. It is always fully expanded but never stretches up for more light. I am just worried because the natural color of any anemone is not clear/white. Is it possible for it to expell too much Zoox by accident and then stop. The reason I...

    Anemone Bleaching ?

Thanks Ed, the strange thing is the color changed over th course of 5 days. Does this seem rapid for a bleaching event. Also the whole anemone is not bleached only about 1/4 - 1/2 of the tips so hopefully it will make a good recovery. I will add the PC tomorrow and keep everyone updated...

    Anemone Bleaching ?

wrightme43: It is not that I don't want to hear it I just know that there are some untrue statements in your post. Numerous people have had great success with 4 x 40W NO lights over a 75 gallon tank are are producing dozens of cuttings. I know that light is an issue bud did not want the...

    Anemone Bleaching ?

Actually according to Calfo and several other reliable sources all you need for BTA prop tank is a few NO lights, a spong filter and lift tubes for water movement. I have seen photo documentation of succussful setups using only the ones mentioned above. The aquarium has stable water parameters...

    Anemone Bleaching ?

Well I have a question about my anemone. I have had it for two weeks and recently it has started to lose color. It started out a nice dark brown with a nice green tint. I left for Thanksgiving and when I came back to check on it (Tuesday to Saturday) the anemone had turned a light brown...

    Anemone Propagation

Well I received my frist BTA today and is seems to be doing great. I aclimated it very slowly and the anemone looks great. I floated the bag for ~1.5 hours while I did a few things and then I drip aclimated it for ~45 minutes. When I put it in the tank withing 10 minutes it attached to the...
