I'm thinking of buying a used chiller, is there anything I should be careful of?

I found a listing on craigslist for a chiller that's the same size as what I've been looking for, he says that his tank cracked ad that's why he's selling it. He's also selling the cracked tank for use with reptiles or the like so I'm inclined to believe him. It's the right size for my...

Would appreciate some input on lighting my 150 mixed reef.

I'm putting together a 150 display tank right now that measures 72" long x 20" wide x 24" high and I'm trying figure out what kind of lights I'd like to run for my mixed reef. I'd ideally like to be able to keep Softies, LPS, SPS and maybe even a clam(Tridacna Crocea) I've looked at MH...

Thoughts on the Tunze DOC Protein Skimmer 9006?

Thanks for the reply, I'll look more into that skimmer, I'm thinking about just rebuilding the sump tank on the bottom or using a cheap glass tank from petco or something. When I decide I'll either use that SWC150 or one of the other skimmers you recommended in my other thread.

Trying to decide on a protein skimmer and I've read quite a bit, but I'm confused.

Thanks for the info and suggestions, and such a quick response Skimmy. Any recommendations on a carbon reactor?

Trying to decide on a protein skimmer and I've read quite a bit, but I'm confused.

Here's my build, it's a 150 gallon display tank with a 50 gallon sump that I'd like to keep a mixed reef in, if you'd like more details please feel free to visit the link or ask any questions necessary. After reading a ton of stuff here on the forums and a few other places I'd consider myself...

Looking for some feedback before I setup my new tank.

I might give that a shot, I'm not really sure I want to cut into the tank though, I don't have a ton of experience working with acrylic or glass. The only thing I've really done was create a divider for our beta tank out of some clear plexi using a radial arm saw to cut it to size and a drill...

Looks awesome, if you've got some spare time to answer a few questions I'd greatly appreciate it. Tank Dimensions? Estimated cost of building these lights?

Looking for some feedback before I setup my new tank.

Interesting, I had heard of Starboard before, but I'd never actually seen a tank that used it. Those actually look like really nice tanks. Do you mind me asking where you got the starboard from and/or how much you spent on them or how much i should expect to spend if I went with that option?

Looking for some feedback before I setup my new tank.

Thanks, I thought it was a bit odd myself, but the tank held water and the price was right, I'll have to figure out some way to clean it up and make it look a bit nicer. Hm, I think I remember a friend mentioning that he uses that to clean his pool and would eat away at the cement lining of...

Looking for some feedback before I setup my new tank.

Mojo Interesting, I hadn't heard of the airstone skimmers, I guess I've found something else to read about and possible build. I was thinking that too, but I'm also thinking that the point of the chaeto is to export excess nutrients such as nitrates isn't it? My thinking was that I'd...

Thoughts on the Tunze DOC Protein Skimmer 9006?

There are 6.75" x 17" opening in the acryllic tank that's going to be used as the sump. I can post a cad drawing that I've been working on later tonight if you still need clarification. I'm not completely opposed to cutting into the tank, I'd just rather not cut into it if it's not necessary.

Thoughts on the Tunze DOC Protein Skimmer 9006?

I'll be setting up a 150 gallon reef tank with a ~50 gallon sump, and I'm trying to decide on a protein skimmer. I like the Tunze's small footprint (about 5"x4.5") for my sump as it's going to be a convert old acryllic tank that has two openings in the top that are 17"x6 3/4" which would mean...

    Hi there.

I'm in Southern California, more specifically Torrance, do you know of any good local resources?

    Hi there.

Definitely learned that one the hard way with my last 36 gallon tank that I had to move when we moved to our new place.

    Hi there.

Hi there, I'm going to be setting up my first reef tank in the near future. In the past I've kept several freshwater tanks with great success (and a few failures, but who hasn't) and currently have 3 smaller tanks up and running. I found a steal of a deal on a big tank (150+50 gallon sump)...
