What's the best way to remove.....

We helped a friend with his acrylic tank and he used the myratic acid full strength in a spray bottle, respraying the coraline every 10 minutes or so for a total of about 1/2 hour to an hour -- depending on how thick the coraline was. It will eat away at concrete, so if you're working in the...

You don't need to be a member to attend our meetings, you both certainly are welcome to attend. We have a Petland in Pasco with marine fish and a few corals, mainly softies so far. They haven't been open very long and are just getting going on their saltwater section. Aquatropics in...

    PSAS April Meeting

Hmm, so if I put them in my display with my little picasso and my young perc maybe they could show them that the big frog spawn in the corner of the tank would be a really cool place to live?? :p

Fish 'frags' at the frag swap... Okay, so I know it's a frag swap, but I have a pair of black and white clowns that need a home where they can have a host anemone. After my last anemone suddenly decided to 'take a walk' after 2 years of staying in place, I"m I'm not willing to try another...

    ORA names and Species Identification

I decided to try moving my Verde down, since it had also lightened up and that one isn't anchored down yet! :D If it gets some more color back I will go ahead and move "Joe" down as well. I also accidentally broke most of my purple pillow acro off this morning trying to get a couple...

    ORA names and Species Identification

Forgot to mention we have lots of flow 4 1" seaswirls, 2 3/4" wavy seas, plus 2 5-head 3/4" lockline. Pumps are two 8500 ampmasters, closed loop pump (driving the wavy seas, 2 of the seaswirls, and the two 5-head locline) is running 100% with varied flow using an oceans motions. Other...

    ORA names and Species Identification

Here's a photo of my Joe the Coral after being in our tank for about a month. The "green" base flesh turned to more of a golden yellow, don't know if it's because the lights are too bright, or maybe not bright enough? It's only at about the mid-point of the tank - found if I put new corals...

    PSAS April Meeting

Those zoas in the bottom photo didn't by chance come from Jonathan did they? I remember he had something similar last time I was over there and I was trying not to drool to badly. :-) Nice multi-colored 'show-off' rock. Can you please replicate that on a frag plug?;)

    plate coral swollen

Have you ever looked at it at 1 am in the morning before? I would guess it might often look that way at night - a good number of my LPS get very 'poofy' and extend polyps to feed in the middle of the night. It's a good time to drop in some coral frenzy or other coral food. :)

    dipping sps

Yes, using Melafix for AEFW dip, most jump off within the first minute or so. I had been using Fluke tab dip and blowing them off with a power head, but my corals were sliming really bad and mucking up the dip water pretty quickly. I'm currently treating about 100 frags that are on racks...

    dipping sps

Melafix Marine has a recommended formula for coral dipping on the back of the bottle. Pretty sure it's 20 mL per 1/2 gal and for only 5 minutes. I've successfully used a solution 1/2 that strong for 15-20 minutes. Nice thing about Melafix is my corals don't slime or seem stressed at all...

    red bugs

After having fought Acropora Eating Flatworms I gotta say that red bugs just don't seem like that big of a deal in comparison. I had a few smooth skinned acros that were surviving red bugs okay, but they didn't have very good color or polyp extension and didn't grow much at all. After the...

pro's con's to buying a mandarin that eats prepared foods?

I kept a mandarin plump and healthy and growing in a 75 gallon for about 2.5 years or so before progressing to the 155 gal. The tank had been setup for 2-3 years with 3-4" sand bed and a lot of live rock before I added the mandarin. (Sorry, never weighed the rock, but photo of 75 gal. is...

Hi Kevin, Just wanted to let you know how pleased we are with the decision to switch from VHOs to T-5s after our discussion with you. We switched from 4 6-ft. VHO T-12 superactnic 420 nm to 6 24 " T-5 powerchrome 450nm. We had the 155 gal. still set up with the T-12s next to the 270 gal...
