    Roscoe's 270g build

Nate here for Colleen - We don' have the ampmaster running anywhere near wide open, and are pushing as much head or more than what you are describing. But, we are lucky in the respect that we don't have many elbows leading to the manifold that supplies most of the eqiupment. And, I installed...

A very unpleasant experience I hope never happens again.

Darn it Ed, I'm really really sorry to hear about your Naso, he was such a beauty, with personality too. He obviously knew he was cool - that's why he'd swim right up to people's faces -- figured we must all be admiring him, not looking at the corals ! Its frustrating to see something is...

    Colleen and Nate's in-wall 270 gallon - Tri-cities

Finally Finished (are we ever really finished???) Okay, I admit it, the tank build definitely got priority over posting photos and updates on the web page! We got the aquascaping done in early January, starting over again with newly purchased rock and sand since we didn't want to add...

    Roscoe's 270g build

Congrats Roscoe -- glad to hear the tank build is progressing! We're running two 8500 ampmasters (not pressure rated but will push a decent head). Definitely overkill for the one running the return, chiller in garage, UV sterilizer, above tank refugium, skimmer, and carbon reactor, :lol...

List of fish/invert natural predators to common Pests

Red Planaria Flat worms Wanted to mention I had the red-orange planaria flat worms back in 2000 when I had my 75 gallon (mostly softies) tank. I bought a 6-line wrasse and he gobbled them all up in no time!

List of fish/invert natural predators to common Pests

Emeralds and AEFW ??? Laugh and scoff if you want, but I swear an emerald crab saved one of my acropora colonies from being eaten by AEFW. We aquired AEFW in our 155 gallon just as we started work on our 270 gallon build, believe me, aptasia and red bug don't seem like such a big deal...

    where to find nice zoas???

Totallyexoticcorals.com has a nice selection of zoas for reasonable prices. I got a few zoa colonies and an acan from them last week and all were carefully packed and arrived in great shape, although the darned rainbow acan was much larger than advertised on their website ! :D

Buying my first 8 foot tank...need advise.

    We're running a Dolphin ES8500 pump on our 270 (w/ 75 gallon sump and ~20 gallon overhead fuge). http://www.dtpetsupplies.com/catalog/product_info.php?language=en&currency=USD&products_id=3095

Buying my first 8 foot tank...need advise.

I agree having a light rack that moves out of the way is great. We just fnished a 270 gal 8 foot in-wall with a light rack that raises (3 400W MH & 6 24" T-5 actinics). My husband and I were sailboat pulleys and couterweights when my 85 yr. old dad suggested we try an elk hoist. It...

    breeding clown fish?

Check out this thread for a rather lengthy but interesting real-life report from someone raising picasso clowns for the first time. She also mentions books/references used. http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/livestock-breeding/32474-rearing-picasso-percula-clownfish.html

    SPS eater

Since I purchased some frags that came with a bonus of acropora eating flatworms I've been dipping all my new frags in Malafix Marine (coral dip instructions are on the bottle) and inspecting under the microscope for any eggs. Lugols didn't seem to affect the AEFW much, and Fluke tabs worked...

    Strange eating behaviour

When I bought my first 75 gallon reef tank in '99 the guy I bought it from said to give the tangs a 'treat' of romain lettuce or dried algae occasionally. I've changed my way of thinking and since I (thankfully) don't really have algae in my tank for grazing I feed an algae clip with a chunk of...

    Strange eating behaviour

Don't know about those two particular fish, but little fishies finally just caught her rabbit fish that had developed an appetite for zoas lately. He ate all of them except a few hiding in rock crevices and a couple fairly common types that apparently didn't taste as good. Of course the rabbit...

    Mounting Frags

Acronyms for web coral suppliers. DFS = Drs. Foster and Smith, which is the parent dry-goods company of LiveAquaria.com TNC = I have no idea, TCN is Acronym for the The Coral Nursery. ORA = www.orafarm.com, although you can't order from them direct unless you're a retailer. You'll find a...

    Interceptor for Red Bug Treatment

I was pleasantly surprised when the first vet I visited was receptive. I'd recommend Meadow Hills Vet Clinic in Kennewick for anyone in Eastern Washington looking for interceptor. I took a printout on redbugs and the dosing amounts for interceptor from the web, along with a nice photo of our...

    Mounting Frags

The smaller frags from Live aquaria aren't bad, but if you're getting any of their macricultured colonies the bases they are attched to are really huge. We had to resort to an air compressor with a cutting wheel on a couple large plugs, but it is tough stuff to cut through. I have found...

    Colleen and Nate's in-wall 270 gallon - Tri-cities

It is secured directly to the wall, but with quick clamps. Figure we will wait and see during the test run if we get vibration noise, if so, will isolate with silicone sheet or something else. Hadn't thought of the foam as a possibility, if that seemed to work pretty well, may just do that...

    Me, Myself, & Sherman too.

Wow, he sure is a beauty, but the vid won't work for us. :-( So how'd you train him to lay down? :p

Sure wish I could figure out how to make that drive while leeping -- you're certainly not missing much scenery-wise!

    Me, Myself, & Sherman too.

Good to hear he's eating now Jonathan. Really glad he was lucky enough to have you rescue him! Can't wait to see some pictures -- glad to hear you didn't scare him too bad, having your mug staring down at him while he was stuck in that acclimation bucket! I know how much you love these...
