Glad you enjoyed it Nana, laughter is good for the soul. I can laugh too since new bulbs fixed it.

OK, so I feel like an idiot! Make sure all packaging is off bulbs!!!

I bought a new AquaticLife HO T5 fixture the middle of December. Once I put the legs on installation looked pretty simple. Set on tank, plug in and program. Now to the idiot part, somehow I failed to notice that although the bulbs were already in the fixture, they were wrapped in plastic...

    Dawn's new 36 bowfront aquarium

With these new corals, I needed to adjust my aquascaping a bit. What do you think...am I getting too closed in and losing that open, cavey look I had?

Remember that brain coral I wanted but it was more than I thought I should spend? My husband surprised me with it for an early valentine's gift! What a guy!!!

    Snails killing zoas??

I love the way zoas look, but I hate it that they mysteriously melt for no apparent reason. I have just quit buying them for that reason.

That's what I'm thinking too. I just spent $300 on this new T5 fixture in December. I'm hoping to incorporate the LEDs along with the T5s because I'm pretty happy with the growth and response of my corals to the HO lighting.

    Dawn's new 36 bowfront aquarium

Thanks Mech, since I downsized from a 90 gallon, my bow front looks really showy! The same amount of corals plus a few in a smaller area. I do think I need more color though. I have some space up near the clam with good light and flow so I'm going to look for some blue or purple acropora and...

GSP is always a good one although not always easy to control. If you had it on a rock that should help but I'd keep it confined to its rock. Some favia (brain coral) come in red and I think that'd do well in your tank. They usually like good-moderate lighting and moderate flow. They will...

It appears that you mostly have softies and LPS? There are some pretty neat acans that come in lots of colors! I like open brain coral too. Its hard to know what appeals to others. Color and movement is what I like although my tank is mostly green, reddish brown and pinkish. It has lots of...

I don't know of phosphates themselves creating an odor in a tank, but they definitely contribute to growing algae. There are products that help remove phosphates that can be purchased at your LFS. A hob fuge/skimmer I think would be a worthwhile investment anyway, even if you weren't having an...

Yes, it was a very innovative method of dealing with sandstorms and such. Cudos to you for coming up with it!

Wow, that is very cool for a realistic twist to the bare bottom tank. I guess if you ever get any sandsifters they will automatically have to take their chances with your "bully" fish in the 10 gallon.lol. Now that I see what you can do with the 'universal rock' it would be cool to do a multi...

Congrats on mastering pic posting! I can't tell what the bottom of the 29 gallon BC is...it looks like a one piece rock floor, which is unique. I like the cave you made for both tanks, I'm sure the fish do too.

Running carbon is good and the filter floss can't hurt. If you have any bio-zyme or TLC, one of those beneficial bacteria boost, I'd add that too. Keep an eye on your ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and pH.and see how it goes for the next day or so.

Whoa, if your water smells off, don't do anything yet! That can definitely be a red flag that something is amiss. Can you identify what it smells like?

When I had trouble posting pics, it was because my photos were too big (too high a resolution). When I lowered the photo size on my camera setting to the lowest resolution, then I could post pics. I also have a Mac. Even on the lowest resolution my photos were pretty good. Its something else...

    dimdims tank thread !

That sounds good. It seems to me that you can start adding some of the corals you want to stock now that your water quality is stable. Maybe you can expand your damsels' diet a little. I'm sure you are being conscientious about not polluting the tank but with your water change schedule your...

    Dawn's new 36 bowfront aquarium

LOL Nana, now that I read it in the vain you wrote it I get a real chuckle! You mean you don't keep your tank pristine either? My fish tank is cleaner than a lot of things at my house, is that scarey or what?
