    Freshwater tank to Salt

I do all of my salt shopping at petsolutions, usually you can get a bucket of reef crystals (instant ocean salt) for 32 for 160 gallons and 8 bucks shipping, and if you order alot of salt at once it only goes to 15 bucks max shipping. For equipment I shop alot at Aquacave.com for metal hallide...

    another newbie question

Most people aim for 20-30x turnover in a reef tank, I personally go for as much flow as I can get in the tank without tossing around all my sand and stressing out my corals.. with that said I have about 9500gph in a 125. It really depends on what you want/need sps typically need more flow while...

Well no fire can keep me down!!

I got some Chaeto and some pink pulsing Xena if you would want some, also are you running your sump with baffles? cause if your running the water to fast through your sump and not letting the air escape before it returns you'll get lots of bubbles like that.. least I do.

    a girl that needs help

If im understanding this correctly your wanting to take your external pump and plumb it into your system without drilling a hole into your sump, you could use some pvc pipe that fits like a "U" over the lip of your sump then put a barb fitting on the end of it for your pump intake. You would...

Well no fire can keep me down!!

Well no fire can keep me down!!

Correct, you just need to support the edges on a glass tank less it doesnt have the bracing on it like the newer tanks do. Go over to barbies sometime she has lots of stands sitting around with tanks on them, look at the stands, you will notice that there isnt even a top on them and just edging...

Well no fire can keep me down!!

Pretty sure most people use the foam for a 2 fold reason, insulation and the fact it can compress evenly unlike wood which can compress at different rates at different spots which can cause stress cracks in acrylic tanks. Also if its on the weekend I could give you a hand if you wanted.

Well no fire can keep me down!!

Looks nice, just wondering if your going to be putting the sides on top of the bracing on the bottom or stacking along its sides. Also when you need some of that chaeto let me know if you want some for free... getting a ton of it in my 55 fuge.

    Coral Banded and Cleaner shrimp

Im pretty sure after a while the arrow will turn predatory, coral banded and cleaner should be fine together (If I recall correctly) but you might have an issue to do terrotary in a smaller aquarium.

    How big should I go?

The biggest hits far as money in a bigger tank would be imo a chiller and lighting.. if you dont have heat issues then a chiller wouldnt be a big deal and with lighting as you know it's dependent upon what your keeping and where in the tank. Pumps it just depends on if your wanting SPS or just...

    How big should I go?

I just set myself up a 125 about 6 months ago.. and now im in the process of thinking of a 500+ gallon tank, from what ive seen the biggest cost to switch will be the lighting, due to more surface area with my hallides. Not sure if your into doing things yourself but you can save quite abit of...

    plenumn question

Yes to an extent it all has to do with the way nitrates can be reversed in the chemical process from nitrates to nitrogen gas and sulpher dioxide ( if I remember correctly) What your looking for is a way to isolate an area of water where nitrates can be leached to it and oxygen does not reach...

    plenumn question

Not sure on the fiberglass mesh for the plenum, but for a DSB you need 3-6 inches depending on grain size, if its Oolitic (sugar sand) 3 inch's is fine. But the larger grain size you have the more sand you need, also keep in mind as time goes on your sand will decrease just from the Ph shift in...
