    Glass Supply in Bothell/Seattle

I ended up going with Valley Glass. It cost about $40 for four pieces of glass (12x16, 12x4, 12x4, and 12x16). Some of the edges weren't completely straight, curving a little at the middle. It's a good thing I didn't need four perfectly straight edges! Otherwise, I don't have much experience...

    Anemone Woes

Oh, it's definitely guts and gore. The sight is about as Lovecraftian as it gets, being turned inside-out with tentacles coming out of the top and bottom of the body. So, there's no hope for this little guy?

    Anemone Woes

I'm currently QTing a friend's long tentacle anemone, but it's looking to be in a bad shape. Its innards are now "outtards" and the tentacles are shriveled up. With clean water, fair lighting, and filter foods, does this little guy have a chance, or is it best to let this one go? Does anyone...

Electricity cost for 250w MH w/ lumatek eballast?

That would depend on how many hours a day you are running the light. Power prices vary from county to county. You should be able to contact your power service provider or look online for their wattage/price ratio.

    Summer Long Reef Experiment

Even low temperatures would be an issue at night. It may be best to connect it to a sump inside the house with a large reserve of water, just to keep the water levels stable. Also, watch out for rain water! :)

    Local Rotifiers?

My pajama cardinal pair looks like they are holding a clutch of eggs! Is there a local source or somewhere I could get live rotifiers within the next few days? I'm not sure how far along the eggs are, nor have I seen them, but one of the cardinals has a 'swollen' underside of the mouth and is...

Taqpol's DIY LED prototype build, detailed pictures, and PAR readings!

Looking forward to the continuing progress of this thread and anxious to see the coral growth under the new lights. Good luck! :)

HoB Skimmer: Too many bubbles in tank

I have recently purchased an Eshopps HOB 150g skimmer and installed it on my 50g FOWLR setup. The skimmate runs great, but I find that there are too many bubbles entering the main tank. The skimmer hangs on the back of the tank, intaking water and placing it right back into the display. The...

    Let's see those Gonioporas.

That first wave of Gonis are impressive, Brie. Very Lovecraftian.

    Flame Angel ?

They tend to nip on the mantles of clams, and would possibly takes a bit out of any sponges or softies in the tank. I doubt that it would bother the frogspawn or the other aforementioned inverts. I had one eat at the underside of a carpet anemone, but I'm not sure if he was responsible for the...

I've got some if you want it! ;)

    refugium plants help???

I put some red mangrove seeds in my tank about a month ago. They are, indeed, slow growing, but the idea is that they better remove phosphates and other chemical contaminants. They are definitely not as efficient as chaeto, but are a nice supplement to the refugium as a whole. Watch 'em...

    Favia Plate Degeneration

I'll also add that it was in physical contact with a pulsing xenia, but that shouldn't be a problem. When in contact with the xenia, it was also sitting next to a keny tree and cabbage corals. ALSO, it was attacked with a barrage of air bubbles when the water in the sump got low. I think...

+1 on Blue Sierra, at least they had it before their big split. Where did you guys these anthias?

    Favia Plate Degeneration

Todd- What type of coral dip would you recommend? Would an Iodine work to disinfect it and generally clean the tissue up? I would like to keep the favia in a high current area, but seeing as how the smaller specimen seems to be having an easier time where there is less current, I may just...

    Favia Plate Degeneration

Hi there, I have recently bought two favia plate corals, one about 4" in diameter, and one at 2". They were originally on the sand bed, but some encroaching cyano, coupled with too much sand blowing onto them prompted me to move them into an area with a bit more current. While on these...

Just picked up some new friends.

BTAs like to find little crevices in which to attach, then send their bulbs out to fish for food and aid zooxanthelle growth. You can sometimes encourage your anemone to stay in a certain spot by creating a bommie, a piece of rockwork that curves around itself to give the 'neme enough shelter.

    live rock

It really depends on the maturity and quality of the life rock. A very porous rock will have more surface area for nitrifying bacteria. A lot of rock that has been, say, sitting in a tank for three years and has a lot of life growing on it would be able to cycle more waste at a quicker rate...

    Voltage Meter to Borrow?

Thanks for the offer, Dolph! I'm actually going up to that area tomorrow, but I'll check out some depot shops for a good meter. I'll check out Home Depot, sgwill! :)
