    Voltage Meter to Borrow?

Does anyone out there have a voltage meter I could borrow? I keep thinking that I feel some wattage running through the water, but I'm not sure if it's just the salt water reacting to any cuts and scrapes on my hands. A voltage meter would be helpful in discerning the culprits if there are any...

    Seahorse Enthusiasts!

My apologies if this thread is not in the right section. My initial purpose for starting this topic was to find local stable-keepers and I figured this section was better than Boomer's Reef Chemistry (though I'll soon be raiding it for information on macro algae!). I've just joined the...

    Seahorse Enthusiasts!

Thanks for all of the input! There are some very interesting methods here. It looks like the majority is leaning towards fresh, clean sand. The former owner of the tank said that there was a sand-sifting sea star, but we did not find it in the move. This leads us to believe that it died...

    Seahorse Enthusiasts!

I'm looking for you seahorse enthusiasts to share your wealth of experience and knowledge with those willing to learn! My lady and I are looking into setting up a seahorse tank over the course of this next year. We have a 50 gal corner tank, about 18"-20" in height. The tank came used with...

    Coast to Coast Overflow Filter

Oh no! Hoping the best for the fish! Did you want me to go over there and install it for you? ;)

    Metal halide grow light

So long as the ballast can go on the floor, the reflector should be of-grade for use in growing organic specimens. I believe it also helps to have a glass UV guard on them for the sake of the corals, but surely some experts will come along and explain that a little more in-depth.

    brown algae help?

Nothing is there to suck up the waste nutrients. Some macroalgae would help, but it doesn't look like anything to worry about. It doesn't look like there's much growing in your system any ways. Have you had brown diatom algae before, and if so is this completely different?

    Phytoplankton Culturing

The "Live" packaged phytoplankton should be good, right? There would be less dead, decaying matter, thus less phosphates in the water?

    Do you run activated carbon?

610 Dead fish, found dumped in Hawaii

Maybe it's a statement of the loss of tropical fish to amateur hands? There's a small ache in my side when I think of the loss of livestock to Petco employees alone...

    meet our new friend

Cute! I just got a starry two days ago too. They've got so much character and serve a greater purpose in your tank! :)

    brown algae help?

Do you have any pics? Is it slimy, hairy, soft? Are your nitrates/phosphates high? When's the last time you changed your bulbs?

    17dkh?!

I'll get him to change the water ASAP! What about this AquaVitro Ion stuff? Should I keep using it at half dose? Also, the iodide would be preferable for a softie tank, no? http://www.aquatichouse.com/Supplements_files/aquavitro.asp

Oh, you see them *alive.* Nevermind! I ended up finding a new home for the CBS just to be safe. :)

    17dkh?!

So, it's time to find an iodide supplement and just let the calc and alk run its course. That purple up stuff is nasty as it is, much too cloudy. There's no coralline algae in there, so I don't see the point. I suppose it's marketed as an all-in-one solution?

    17dkh?!

Hi there, I've been doing some tests on a friend's tank. His softies have been melting and brown algae has overrun the live rock. The fish seem fine. There are hermit crabs and a CB shrimp in there which look to be thriving. The corals, however, just are not taking it well at all. Here...

What to look for in Live Rock

Myteemouse, did you seed that rock with anything else over the 9 month period, or did you add anything to get that beautiful growth? I would imagine some of the algae on the frag rocks would help contribute too.

    Biocubes?

Biocube looks to be the sleekest all-in-one design since the reign of the Eclipse aquariums. With the introduction of the Berlin style marine aquariums, this still seems to be a little behind the times, using bioballs and wet/dry filtration techniques. Do these still stand up to their larger...
