Looking for a Local Stand Builder

I'm also interested if you find a good stand builder. I am still floundering in the design/pricing phase on my stand. I haven't decided where I am buying it yet. (My tank will be 36 x 20 x 22 tall)

I tried to upload a pdf file of the sketch of the tank but can't for some reason  (invalid file or short circuit in the "operator") At least it's only going to need a couple of people to move this one in the house. (I should clarify on the previous post...those are gold COLORED...

    Reef Keeper 2 Users

I don't think it even came with a manual and DA seems reluctant to give me suggestions since it is a little out of the ordinary. At this point I may just try it and see how it works. If it doesn't then I will just use the reefkeeper II at one location only.

Here are some pics showing the lights going in, before routing cords. Lights will be on main work bench, under the shelf and also illuminating the sump area to see when I have my arm in the skimmer (yes that is a pool table in the shot...my wife loves it when I take over the living room with...

A couple more pics showing the center area for the electrical panels... It will eventually become an electrical sub panel behind a hinged glass door (if you can use your imagination)

I have started the Sump work bench and have done the construction in two pcs that bolt together. Base unit with shelf unit that attaches. It has a "pan" that I used marine epoxy to water proof and then I painted the whole thing in several coats of primer and a hammered grey finish. Once...

My current tank is a 29 gallon system with a 175watt halide and plumbed to a remote sump out in my garage. It is small and easy to manage, but just not big enough (sound familiar). The sump was built by Jason at Clear Fabrications and is large for a 29 (approx 30x16x22 high ) The sump is the...

BobinCovington's new system "makeover"with sump stand, elos tank and...

I started dabbling in reef aquariums back in the mid eighties when the concept of "live rock" was new and we used shop lights, plastic shotgun wads or DLS for bio material and skimmers only cost about $50. Damn...I should be much better at this hobby by now. I have been asking everyone...

what paint for inside of stand?

what about the truck bed liner from Rhino? They can spray it on just about anything. It is a pretty good barrier for metal stands too. I was going to use it on my sump stand and ended up painting...wish I would have used the rhino liner because it is tough stuff.

    A Clearly Fabricated 270g

great project. I bought my sump from jason and love it. He builds a great product, so you've got a great system there. Looks like it is really coming together.

Tell me what you think of my "final" lighting choice

I am taking pictures of my progress, one of these days I will learn how to add pictures to my post. In answer to what kind of corals in my tank...sps like millis, montis, slimer, stylos and then some soft corals and LPS. I have heard the 10K is the one if you supplement with actinic for the...

Tell me what you think of my "final" lighting choice

I have posted a lot of "what do you think of..." posts and I want to thank everyone for all the great help I have received. It really makes a difference to hear the opinions of people that have tried before instead of making the mistakes myself. That's the great part of all of us reef people...

April Meeting, what does the Club want to do?

you make a good point. But I did have to do a wikipedia search on "tetoler" :)

April Meeting, what does the Club want to do?

It has probably already been done, but what about doing tank tours (in a reasonable local area) with several tanks being shown. Each place could open their home to whoever during a certain hours on a Saturday afternoon. I would just follow my GPS to each place. Come on in, have a beer or...

I saw a picture of a reef aquarium with an old budweiser can on the sand. is this ok?

Not that I want to do this, but it was pretty funny to see a copper banded butterfly fish swimming around an old crunched up faded Budweiser can. It seemed to remind me of a few dives I have been on in the LA harbor. Would an aluminum can in a small reef tank put off any bad chemical reactions...

    Hood Configuration

Your size canopy is just the problem I am facing on my own tank design. My tank is 36 x 20 and I want to use the luminarc mini, but I am not sure how to add the actinic. Kevin, do they make a smaller T5 to mount inside the reflector?

    lighting plan for a 36" x 20" tank (22" depth)

good to hear both choices have good feedback. One of my concerns is putting T5s in the canopy with the luminarc so no light glares out onto the walls. I may have to do some more creative thinking

    lighting plan for a 36" x 20" tank (22" depth)

just a bump for some help....elos tank is on order and lighting has become my priority. Still considering doing the luminarc mini, but now also considering the current USA 36" long 2 x 250 HQI plus T5s fixture. I am anxious to hear any experience out there on these lighting setups or something...
