JBJ Arctica DBA-150 1/5 HP Aquarium Chiller

I have a gently used but definitely not abused JBJ Arctica DBA-150 1/5 HP aquarium chiller. Since moving my tank to my basement a couple of years ago I have not needed to use the chiller anymore. Hoping this will be a great deal for a fellow aquarium enthusiast who is need of a chiller this...

    acrylic scratches

I have used the Lifegard Scratch Removal Kit: http://www.marinedepot.com/Rainbow_Lifegard_Acrylic_Scratch_Removal_Kit_72000_Tank_Cleaning_Kits_for_Saltwater_Aquariums-Lifegard_Aquatics-RB1551-FIMTCK-vi.html It can be used inside the tank without having to drain the water with no ill effects to...

    Maroon Clown

I had a pair of maroon clowns, but then the female died. After about 6 months or so I decided to try and get another and try to pair again. I bought a much smaller male since the current male I had had grown quite a bit since the female died. Well, as soon as I put the new male into the tank...

    Are my Anemones Dying?

I can't comment on T-5 bulbs since I've never used them. But I have had great results buying bulbs online, including fosterandsmith. Taking water sample to your local reef is a great idea. You might as well ask them to test Mg too while you're there. Then you can get all 3 back in balance...

    Are my Anemones Dying?

All I can say is for a person with only 23 posts (about half of which are on this thread), it seems to me you're the one presenting themself as a know it all. Not only that, but argumentative as well. Sorry to be harsh, but I've gotta call it like I see it. The banter back & forth is not...

    Cleaning powerheads

+1 for running the pump in vinegar. Works real good to remove the calcium buildup in & around the impeller. Occassionally need to scrub the outside of the powerhead too.

    HOB Overflow and sump

IMHO, when you install the sump and return pump you should also install a ball valve between the return pump and your display. By doing this you can throttle the return flow back to your display. If you don't need to throttle, then just leave the valve wide open. But, if your return pump is...

    RO/DI water preparation and storage

I have not heard that DI water should be aerated while it's being stored. I definitely think that could/would cause the DI water to absorb some TDS (i.e. dust/smoke/etc in the air would end up in the water). I don't keep mine heated either. I use empty 5g salt buckets to hold RO/DI water for...

I've gotta give you props for taking your mom to SeaTac airport from Pullman! I usually complain about having to play taxi to the airport and I only live about 25 minutes away!

How to "FINE TUNE" Megaflow overflow

IME, the problem you are experiencing is due to your return pump producing higher GPH than your overflow can handle. If your return pump has any type of valve to adjust the flow, I would try dialing that down. Otherwise, the solution I used was to install a ball valve between the return pump...

    Pond foam question

I used a 2-part "30 minute" slow cure epoxy. I wasn't able to find at HD or Lowes, but Hobby Town has it. BTW, if you buy from Hobby Town, they keep cheap brushes behind the counter that work great for applying the epoxy. If you don't ask them, then all they have out on display are expensive...

    Power Outage

I hear you. We were w/o power for 8 days that same winter....those were certainly desperate times! Unfortunately my livestock did not fair as well as yours :(

    Power Outage

I would advise not to try and heat the water up using hot water in a jug, etc. It will be much harder on your livestock to have the temp fluctuating up & down versus just gradually getting cooler. However, insulating the tank to retain heat wouldn't be a bad idea. Keeping the water aerated...
