    New LED's released

PA has a brand of these LEDs for reef tanks available, although considerably more than $50/each. 7 LED but 21W. http://premiumaquatics.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=PA&Category_Code=ledio

    New LED's released

Yep, I've read about those a little. As I understand them, they fit into a regular light bulb socket and each unit is completely self contained in each bulb fixture. I believe many people are using track lighting method, mounting a couple of tracks and then adding as many fixtures as they...

Finally got a tank. 60g Solana

Yep, that's exactly what I did, too. I made a 2nd cut out in the rock wall just in case I add a 2nd one (probably will somewhere down the line). At first, I was going to try and make a rockwall "cover" for the hole, but in the end I just placed some rocks in front of the hole to cover it up...

    Pacific Sun LED group buy

I believe 2 AI units would operate independently from each other, unless connected to a profilux controller, in which case they would be controlled as one.

    Pacific Sun LED group buy

I have read quite a bit about the AI unit, so I'm going to chime in here to try and answer. The AI unit will work perfectly fine using the controller that comes with it. However, the controller is pretty simple in that you can adjust intensity of blue & white leds, control sunrise/sunset...

Finally got a tank. 60g Solana

Trike: yeah, I hear you on wanting to make it strong, definitely nothing wrong with that at all. You'll be amazed at how rigid it becomes once the foam is added between the rock. When I built mine, I was afraid that the eggcrate wouldn't be strong enough to support the weight of the rock I...

Finally got a tank. 60g Solana

Hi Trike: hey, that eggcrate you're bending is for a foam rockwall on the back of your tank, right? If so, it might be easier to just cut the eggcrate in separate pieces, and then use zipties to fasten them together. By the time you add the foam, it all firms up and becomes quite rigid...

    Pacific Sun LED group buy

moto: I believe there is quite a difference between this unit compared to the maxspect. The things I see in favor of pacific sun include: cree leds vs unknown brand (made in china for sure), ability to adjust color temperature & program way more possibilities using windows program via...

    Pacific Sun LED group buy

Hey jmp, there are LEDs available for actinic supplementation. I just ordered a pair of these but haven't received them yet: http://premiumaquatics.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PA&Product_Code=RB-HLS15-B&Category_Code=reefbrite There are others to choose from as well, PA has...

    Maxspect G2-160W

yeah, I read that in their description also, but I'm pretty sure by 'independent controllable' they mean on/off and not dim (english grammar on the website is pretty poor). I can't say 100% since I don't own it, but that's what I've read anyways. It's mentioned a few times in some RC threads...

    Maxspect G2-160W

Hmm, IIRC I do not believe the Maxspect units are dimmable, but you can control blue & white power separately. I believe the G2-160W has 3 power switches, 1 for 30w white, 1 for 3w white & 1 for 3w blue. I have been very tempted to get the exact same unit G2-160W. There's a big thread on RC...

    Halide lighting color and temp

Radio Shack also sells some fans that run on AC power, you just have to splice on a power cord. I've been using 1 for quite some time and it's not nearly as noisy as the ice cap fans. This is the one I have, $25, 65CFM (no specs for dBA)...

This is going to be my 1st ever saltwater tank!

Hi James: welcome to RF and the reef hobby! I'll warn you that the hobby is quite addictive :p. In regards to wet/dry vs sump, the consensus is that bioballs are not good to use in a reef tank setup because they become nitrate factories and end up making your water chemistry worse than better...

    Halide lighting color and temp

Yes, it's my understanding that as the bulb gets hotter, the color gets whiter. If you add some air movement in your canopy, I think you'll see less color shift. HTH, Rob

    Rob's 93g 30"x30"x24" Marineland Cube

OK, not a lottery win, but I did pretty good at the craps table the other night :D so I order 2 of the 15" Reef Brite LEDs from PA: http://premiumaquatics.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PA&Product_Code=RB-HLS15-B&Category_Code=reefbrite I'm getting the all blue LED model and...

ATP's 120 Gallon Oceanic Tech Tank

Very cool! Glad it worked, and yes as long as you don't flood when your return pump is off, then there should be no need for the check valve. Rob

    Help with tank chemistry

Hi Rachel: first of all, how is your livestock doing? Sounds like it's been in your new tank for about 3 weeks...fish, coral? In regards to your test results, 16 drops to get dKh test doesn't translate to anything without knowing which brand & what each drop equates to. I use Elos, and 16...

ATP's 120 Gallon Oceanic Tech Tank

Hey, one more thought...if all 3 returns originate from 1 common pipe located in your overflow (using a tee or something), then you may be able to drill 1 siphon break on that 1 common pipe, instead of 3 separate siphon breaks.

ATP's 120 Gallon Oceanic Tech Tank

Ah, OK, I got it now...takes me a while sometimes  So, if all 3 originate from the top of your tank, you can keep the 3rd one there, but you should drill a small siphon break hole just below the normal water line, maybe 1/4 or 1/2 inch below the surface (you should do this on all 3 lines...
