    Marineland Cubes

I have the 93 cube, and it looks like 3/8" thick to me. HTH, Rob

    sump?

if you use a pump that produces too much flow, just put a ball valve in the return line between the pump and the display. Then, you'll be able to throttle the amount of flow coming back to the display. HTH, Rob

    plumbing issue

I would agree that you shouldn't have a need for a ball valve on the drain to your sump. The flow from the drain to the sump should never need to be restricted. On the other hand, a ball valve on the return line from the sump back to the display may be necessary if the return pump produces...

    gluing coral to rock

be careful with the 2-part epoxies, as they generate heat when mixed together, which can damage or kill your sps.

    Rob's 93g 30"x30"x24" Marineland Cube

video Here's a short video I took of the tank. I took the video for the following reasons: 1) Question about the Vortech's flow. The MP40W is mounted on the back wall of the tank, near the top. The hammer coral is in the front, near the bottom. You can get an idea of the flow generated by...

    Rob's 93g 30"x30"x24" Marineland Cube

Stand is 32" tall. I was originally looking at the 70 because I thought I wanted a shorter tank so it would be easier to clean. But when I saw the 70 in person it was just a little too shallow/small for me. In hind sight, I think I could have done the 150 for not much more $$, but no biggie...

    Rob's 93g 30"x30"x24" Marineland Cube

right now one MP-40 seems to be plenty of flow. I have it on max setting, but in reef crest or lagoon modes, so it ramps up & down between 40%-100%, or something like that. I did make a spot for a 2nd vortech in my rock wall in case I need it later. I think as the tank gets more & bigger...

    Rob's 93g 30"x30"x24" Marineland Cube

OK, finally had a chance to take some new pictures. I have 3 fish in the tank now, just a few corals, and a good size clean up crew. Not the best pics as my camera doesn't want to focus through the glass... Here's a FTS: <a...

BRS mixed dry rock. anyone used it?

FWIW, I bought 100lbs of the "Reef Saver" dry rock from BRS and couldn't be happier. The rock was very pourous and quantity seemed very good for the amount I purchased.

    ATO Recommendation Help

FWIW, I've been using ATO from autotopoff.com on both of my tanks for several years now without any problems (1 sump model & 1 in-tank model). Simple design with redundant switches, and reasonably priced IMO. I'm using them with a aqua lifter pump. http://autotopoff.com/products/DS1/...

    who doses randy's two part?

I dose Randy's 3-part (mg too). If you don't already have, I would strongly encourage you to get Alk, Ca & Mg test kits. Dosing without testing will eventually lead to problems!

    Rob's 93g 30"x30"x24" Marineland Cube

Thanks for the compliment Nick. Man, I knew I should have taken pics when I was making the rock wall, but I didn't... I got the idea from RC. There are a bunch of threads there where people have documented the process (search for 'foam rock' in the DIY section). Basically involves eggcrate...

    Rob's 93g 30"x30"x24" Marineland Cube

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. For me, there is nothing like starting a new tank. And this is my first time with a glass aquarium and also the first time I've bought one brand new. I'm hoping I can take all my past experiences to make this tank the best it can be! After 2 acrylic...

    OverFlow & Sump Return question

If you get a larger return pump and decide it's too much flow, you can put a ball valve on the return line to throttle the flow.

    Rob's 93g 30"x30"x24" Marineland Cube

I recently picked up a new aquarium to replace an existing tank I have. I just got the new tank set up and have that "new reef" excitement going on, so I figured I start a thread with some details about my tank. I purchased the aquarium, stand & canopy from Barrier Reef. The stand & canopy...

What brand and type of Heater do I need?

I have been using Stealth heaters for the past few years w/o problems, until just recently when 1 quit working (stopped heating all together). When I inspected it, a 2 inch section in the plastic had split open and I could see the inside slightly. Did not appear to be a melting of the plastic...

    trying to get coralin

I remember when I wanted to see coralline algae grow when I set up my tank. In hind sight, I wish I didn't have any coralline! On LR, it's fine, but once it starts growing on the glass/acryllic, it's a real pain to get off, and without regular maintenance to keep it under control, it spreads...

Alternative to Slotting aquarium back for horizontal overflow

Well, I think without the slotting, you will have fish, snails, etc that will make their way from your tank to your overflow. From there, maybe down to your sump. If you're having your tank custom built, is there a reason you don't want to just have an external overflow built and the back wall...
