A 750g SPS system is born

I wonder if there are any fish out there that would help? I know my copperband and mandarin in my tank do nothing but look around all the time for something to eat. There isn't much that is very small on the coral or rocks that moves they won't eat. My butterfly has never bothered the SPS...

    Some BB questions for you....

Mike, On the negative side, with BB I think you will find your softie growth may slow down. They do like the nutrients they get from a DSB better. Keeping the bottom clean is a matter flow. I suggest setting up a high flow pulse recirculation system, with as high flow as a full turn over...

    The Sherman Tank (Photo Scrapbook)

Thanks......I know the pictures are not bad  ; but they are just not great  . I want to beable to take great macro reef tank photos like the ones that Sherman took at the beginning of this thread. I bought a good camera. A Nikon D70 with 105mm macro lense and extension tubes...

6 months after going BB and making process chnages

Sorry for not responding sooner....I was not set up on my User CP to get response notifications. I changed that. CPW questions.... I also think the theory is still sound. I simply started having difficulty in controlling N&P after about 6 months. It could have been my own fault and caused by...

    The Sherman Tank (Photo Scrapbook)

I agree the quality of the clam photo is no where near the outstanding quality you have shown in earlier photos posted. Can you retake it to match the quality of previous photos you posted and give us detail info on your camera settings, lense, tank lighting, and Photoshop steps? I have a new...

DGASMD, Keeping the garage open 24/7. I assume it is to help air out the garage from moisture and odor. :( One little trick, I'll pass on which helps control odor. Put a tablepoon full of house hold bleach into your remote skimmer drain bottle after every time you empty it. It does a great...

    The Sherman Tank (Photo Scrapbook)

Sherman Posted this over on the workshop forum..... I stand corrected ;) " while back, I was playing with my flash (Canon 420EX) in the reef situation. Basically, I'm not really a big fan of it, but it has its place, I'm sure. I was using it to fill in the unlit areas of this Montipora...

    Friend Lost two Croceas overnight..

My money is on the yellow coris wrasse. I have a clown wrasse that is still small but he would tear up a clam very quickly if given a chance. He flips over pieces of coral ten times his weight looking for worms and pods all the time. All wrasse can be agressive and eat snails and crabs...

    Mechanical filtration

If the particles are collecting on the bottom they aren't exactly feeding the children..:p I'm from the get it all out and then feed more fresh food to make up for over skimming and filtering school. I think most of the reef inhabitants like fresh food more than old poop if they can get...

Three of your buttons on the top have no width control....Home-Updates-Equipment When I click on these button they disappear from my screen and I have to scroll sideways to bring them back into view. The other buttons work fine.

I suggest you go back and lock a maximum site width so that you don't have to scroll side ways to see the whole picture on your site.:doubt: Also on my browser I can't see the pictures off to the right on your equipment page...they all show up as boxes with question marks.:(

monti caps and digi's bleaching everythingelse ok

I'm with you....but it does show that coral are exposed to much wider range of conditions than we often think about. The coral in our tanks are probably under a much higher level of stress to start, and I agree that the more stable we keep our systems the less trouble we may have.

    Sand Stirring substrates

You're on the money Anthony......I agree with everything you have said. I did try a remote bed in my fuge for awhile, but that is even gone now after it caused or contributed to an out break of RTN when I disturbed it pulling out excess rooted macro algae. Bare bottom is easier to control and...
