    Kahuna & Indoor cohosting PSAS

I would love to be there, as I need to actually join. But, alas, that's the day we start driving for our vacation. I guess I'll have to wait until you are all over at The Shark Reef for the meeting in August.

An overflow with teeth keeps your fish and snails from catching a wave.

    Plumbing Question

Thanks for all the help guys. Last question, I hope. I am installing unions in a few places. They are not labelled in any way. Is there a particular direction that water should flow through, male to female or vice versa? I really don't think it matters, but I figured I would ask before gluing...

    Xenia Cutting In Tank

What are the dangers to cutting pulsing xenia in the tank? I have a stalk attached to a rock where I don't want it, but I also don't want to remove a bunch of rock just to get this one out of the tank. What sort of damage can I do to other corals and fish if I cut the xenia off the rock and...

    Plumbing Question

So I think I can change my plumbing to make room for a straight run into my pump (no turns), I'll have to check when I get home. However, I had shortened the outlet from my sump in trying to make room, and now I wonder if the distance from the sump to the pump might be too short. Is there a...

    Plumbing Question

Thanks for the input. I had a breakthrough this morning when I realized I can just get a threaded union to attach directly to the pump. I had glued the union to a thread adapter which made it stick out too far. Unfortunately I am out the ~$5 for the slip union I already glued, but live and learn...

    Plumbing Question

Due to size constraints in my stand I find myself needing to put a bend in the pipes on the intake side of my return pump. My pump is an Blue Line HD40 3/4" in and out. Are there any big issues with putting a 90 degree bend on the intake side?

Braided Vinyl Tubing - Pros and Cons?

bump. Anyone else have pro's or con's? I am getting close to the last bit of plumbing on my tank which will likely be some sort of flexible tubing. Thanks.

Braided Vinyl Tubing - Pros and Cons?

I hadn't thought of that. Does anyone know where I can get flexible pvc on the kitsap penisula?

Braided Vinyl Tubing - Pros and Cons?

Thanks Jason, What exactly is K-flex? Another reason I was attracted to the braided vinyl is that I can just slip it over a barb and clamp it down. No gluing, and easy to remove if I ever had to.

Braided Vinyl Tubing - Pros and Cons?

Title says it all. I want to avoid three 90 degree turns in the return line from my sump to my tank, and figured flexible tubing was the answer. I can only get "spa flex" in 1-1/4" or larger sizes locally (or that's all I have been able to find), and my return pump is a Blue Line HD40 with 3/4"...

    Coral ID help

Thanks guys. I certainly looks like the picture of Hydnophora microconos posted here by MojoReef in the library. What are the chances that it will re-grow over the dead areas?

    Red Bubbles

Is this red stuff spreading to cover your sand bed as well? Is it slimy looking? Does it come off in sheets if you pick it off? If so, it is probably cyanobacteria. I had a bloom of cyanobacteria in my tank that always had bubbles in it. The thing about this is that it is a bacteria, not an...

    New Tank Pics

I thought I would share some pics of my tank. 5 months old and going strong. This will be the last of this 24g Aquapod as I am working on getting my new 75g up and running. When that happens, most everything gets moved into the larger tank and this becomes a seahorse/pipefish tank for my wife...

    Coral ID help

I was hoping that you all might help me ID this coral. When I bought it, the whole plate was covered, but then it fell on my hammer coral one night and I'm left with dead patches.

Help: New MH Bulb- Avoiding light shock

Steve, I thought that the issue was that old bulbs will loose luminosity (intensity) over time, that is not perceptable to the human eye (primarily because it occurs so slowly). So that when a new bulb is put in, no matter what the color rating, the light is much more intense to those organisms...
