    Yes, if the Alkalinity part 'smoked' upon entry that is normal. Magnesium hydroxide precipitation. The calcium part shouldn't do anything.

    You'll have no problems keeping zoas under T5 lighting. Especially if it is HO. ;)

    Here's my vote (in order of quality) Deltec MCE300 Remora Pro Remora A Tunze DOC internal skimmer would be tops on my list but technically it's not a hang-on, it's a hang-in. ;)

    Yes, you need to find out exactly what your alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium levels are. Keeping these in balance is key to avoid overdose or precipitation like you've experienced. Likely there will be a bit of precipitation in the form of magnesium hydroxide as you dose the Alkalinity part...
