    I got seahorses/help

I have dwarf seahorses. They need to eat baby brine shrimp - do you have brine eggs? If so, get them hatching. Do not put them in with the clowns. Put them in a gallon jug, put them in quart jars, but don't put them with the clowns. I'm sending a PM with my phone number. I can get you set up...

    Seahorse's

Can they or should they? Quick answer is that it is not recommended but some species can be kept together - some cannot. Dwarves are not kept with larger species. Other species can be housed together as long as they have the same temperature requirements. There are major risks involved in...

    seahorse question

Keep trying the frozen mysis blow it around with a turkey baster or hold it right in front of them and wiggle it (in your fingers, tweezers, or whatever). Some people say garlic helps. Will it eat enriched adult brine shrimp? If so it might be easier to feed that for awhile (although it is...

    seahorse question

I can't really say for sure... but my guess is that having the light on 24/7 would cause stress for the seahorse - they do "sleep" at night. Could you run the fuge on a reverse schedule instead? Also, seahorses don't really like being alone - has the fuge got room for a second seahorse?

How Many Tanks Do You Have Set-up?

Depends on how you count. We've got 13 (relatively) normal type tanks plus two 10 gallons with ghost shrimp, a 10 gallon with only hermits, 10 separate seahorse nurserys, a peppermint shrimp nursery, a ghost shrimp nursery, a couple of experiment nano's, and at least a dozen cultures of...

    what are these?

Tadpoles would probably be mysis shrimp. Copepods are more like fleas. Amphipods would be super-sized "C" shaped fleas.

    How Many Use Tap Water?

Not trying to start any trouble but need to say that some of us use the aquarium water and have seen only improvements in our tanks (all 12 of them) - no problems at all. In fact, we even raise delicate seahorse fry in it. We use 720 gallons of seawater a month and couldn't afford to buy that...

    Should I buy these softies?

We've got lots of kenya trees in all our tanks - all started from 3 tiny frags. I like them and they survive just about anything except Panacur treatment.

Help! New Dad 100 Sea Horses

Gee... <blush> Thank you, Travis. I've enjoyed helping you and Joann learn to raise fry. I kinda have a mission to share info and help with folks like you. In the spirit of Reef Frontiers: we're all here to help each other. Besides, it was a good trade for me too... I got my share of the...

    Dwarf Seahorse Photos

Yes, Nikki, The second pic is a pregnant male. A pair can produce up to 25 fry every 10 days - they don't usually, but they can. Reidi which are one of the species of full size seahorses can produce over 500 fry every 14 days - and often do - just ask Wingnut (Travis).. his male has had an...

    New born brine shrimp

I'm pretty unsophisticated when it comes to understanding all the research, but here's where I base my opinion that the SFB artemia are more nutritious as a strain. Here's the info: For example, a number of studies have shown that growth and survival of fish larvae (including milkfish...

    Dwarf Seahorse Photos

The newborn dwarfs eat new hatched brine shrimp and copepods - the same as their parents eat. The larger species of seahorses eat mostly frozen mysis as adults but the fry start with rotifers, copepods, and new hatched brine shrimp. There are some species that can skip the rotifers - but not...

    Dwarf Seahorse Photos

Didn't want to hijack the other thread but by request, here are some pics of my dwarves and their 5 gallon hex. There are 20-25 in the hex (until that pregnant poppa pops, then there will be 10-20 more) plus I have another 30 or so in a 10 gallon. These guys are up to 1.5 inches. The white...

    Ocean Treasures Microreefs

It could be a great tank for dwarf seahorses. I've got about 20 of them in a 5 gallon hex.

    New born brine shrimp

Decapsulating the eggs also leads to more nutritious shrimp as they use less energy breaking out of the shell, and you avoid hatching hydroids along with your shrimp. Also, San Francisco Bay strain (not brand) brine are quite a bit smaller and have a better nutritional profile then the standard...
