    id please

Actually, Cynarina and Scolymia are two different species. Personally, I think it looks like a baby Trachyphyllia... without the obvious "folds" we're used to seeing in the bigger ones. Is the bottom of the thing cone shaped?

    Good Reference Books

Personally, I'd rank the Borneman book as #1 priority for corals, but if you don't have Fenner's book I'd get that as #1a! If that "Corals: A Quick Reference Guide" is the book by Sprung - I was disappointed. Nice pictures and descriptions. But it seemed to me like the little "care" charts for...

What... you don't honestly think he/she was just trying to get to that 50 post limit for the classifieds now, do you? ;)

    Good Reference Books

It has a few problems, but overall I'd recommend Eric Borneman's "Aquarium Corals." It gives you all the things on your list, gives you hints on what kind of lighting/placement a coral may like, and is not written at a level to overwhelm a beginner. Once you digest that one, the other books...

    coral ?

I'm going to go against the grain and say that "beginner" corals is kind of a misnomer. For example, zoanthids are often touted as good "beginner" corals, but there are plenty of instances where folks that have successful tanks with plenty of different, thriving corals can not keep zoanthids...

Emerald crab soon to be crab cakes

Thanks for helping me make my decision on whether or not to get an emerald to deal with bubble algae. I'll just keep "pruning" the bubble algae with my siphon tube during water changes, thank you very much! Sorry 'bout the acan.... that sucks.

    Can I get these corals?

Funny. Whoever mentioned that it appeared you had your mind made up from the beginning pretty much nailed it, eh? Powerhead placement? Only recommendation would be to put them where you don't have dead spots, but yet gives you high flow and low flow areas to work with.

help with dieing green zoanthids and torch coral

Hmm.... so if you did 3x 30g changes since the beginning of January, that's about 50% tank/sump volume. And your nitrates are now at 25. Before, you said you were out of your nitrate test kit, so is this the first time you've tested for nitrates for a while? From the sounds of it, before you...

    Can I get these corals?

Here's another aspect that I just thought about when I was feeding the tank tonight... In the first few months, I was experimenting with powerhead placement, and quantity of powerheads quite a bit. My flow patterns were constantly changing while I learned the pros/cons of each different...

    Can I get these corals?

I think everyone said pretty much everything I would've said. Not sure if your "please don't bash me" comment was directed at me, but if so, there was no bashing intended. If me pointing out that keeping a coral alive for two weeks doesn't mean you have a stable tank is bashing... well... then I...

    Can I get these corals?

The thing is... unless I'm reading your original post wrong... your 29g was only up for a month. And you're claiming success with your existing corals since they've been doing well for 2 weeks. Two. Weeks. There will always be "deals" to be had with corals. Slow down, do some reading, find out...

    calc

I'm scratching my head how you can have mixed saltwater in the low 200s and a tank with greater than 1000. What brand salt mix are you using? I'm assuming you've been dosing with something in your tank if you truly have >1000?

help with dieing green zoanthids and torch coral

I'm no leather expert, but I know they can be pretty nasty if they want to be - chemically speaking. I didn't notice the leathers in your coral list the first time, but they caught my eye in this last listing. Are the corals that are dieing off "downstream" of the leathers, or nearby? (Yeah... I...

help with dieing green zoanthids and torch coral

Hmmm... other than the ammonia issue, nothing really jumps out. 20% water changes every 5-6 seems like a loooong time between changes, but if it's been working for you in the past, then I wouldn't think that's the problem. Might want to get a nitrate test kit and check those... thinking those...

My aqua c remora just wont skim?

Looking at your build thread, it looks like the water level is pretty low compared to where it would be if was on the back of your tank, but if you say it's not a problem... no problem.

Along with chichas' questions... how long had/have the corals been in the tank and what other corals are in there with them?

    RO/DI solution? anyone?

DI is the last cannister. And no... removing it doesn't reduce the waste. The waste comes from the RO section.

My aqua c remora just wont skim?

The mesh mod was your first issue (no air injection on a Remora so the mesh is pointless) and the second is that you're trying to use a HOB Remora in a sump. Is your water level that high in the sump? Or did you extend the intake tubing and lower the pump? If you lowered the pump, then that's...

    Refractometers and Salinity Measurement

Linearity. Just because it reads zero at zero doesn't mean it reads 35 ppt at 35 ppt. And we keep our tanks closer to 35 than zero, so calibrating at zero really doesn't help much.
