    Attacking Aiptasia

No measurable effect on water parameters. I've used that stuff before and it works like a charm. Just turn off all your pumps and don't get it on anything you don't want dead.

    need help with nitrates

Granted... large, multiple water changes will reduce nitrates. But seems kinda coincidental that the nitrates are going down at the same time you've stopped feeding the homemade food.

    need help with nitrates

You said this in your first post... How are you making the food mixture and with what ingredients? Have you dissolved some in water and tested for nitrates? Many times store bought seafood can have preservatives sprayed on them to extend their shelf life. You might be putting the nitrates...

    Big Sale Time!!

Orange and black striped legs. I had one early on in my tank, but it didn't fare well. Died a month or so after I got it.

IO Reef Crystals now with more Ca and ?

I believe it's just a packaging change. It's always been advertised as having "more" calcium, but they're just referring to more than IO. And that's kinda debatable.

    Accidental Creatine induced growth spirt

Ahhh... I won't try and recreate it, thanks. I'm actually quite familiar with that trick - I've done the same thing with cups on a banister rail while opening a child gate. "It's perfectly balanced. It won't fall. It'll only fall if it gets bumped."

    spray paint

I painted the back of mine with a brush and didn't have any issues. You have to do many many coats, but the brush marks don't matter. The brush marks will show up looking at the back (from the back), but they disappear when looking through the front. Imagine a roller would be the simplest for...

    Accidental Creatine induced growth spirt

What I really want to know... How do you "accidentally" dump 64oz of it in your tank? :)

Female maroon clown dusting the sand

My O.Clown does it all the time too... and no anemone in the tank. Think it's probably a territorial thing. Wish it would stop it though because I can't put a thing on the sand in "it's" corner, or it buries it to death.

    Thermometers? Coralife digital.

Guess I'm the only one around happy with all of my Coralifes. I have two on my main in different areas, in addition to a different brand digital, and a Johnson Controls A419 controller. They're all within 2 degrees of each other. Guess mine came from a good batch!

    how long

There ya go... perfect example! Try medium light and low to medium flow. Mine is at the water's surface (base is about 4" below water line) under 2x 96W compact fluorescent, with not a lot of flow.

    how long

Agree with sid... the question you're asking doesn't have a useful answer. Here's my example: Stylophora frag mounted on a rock high in my tank for about a year with very little growth and minimal polyp extension. I had to move it out of the way of a neighboring torch coral (which WAS growing...

When a Rhizo meets an anglerfish.

Sooo... did you check to see what was in the Mandarin's mouth? :)

    Thoughts on Clown Gobies

I've got a yellow clown goby in a 46g. No issues with him hiding - it's out and about all the time. Normally perches on a platygyra, but his #2 favorite spot is camping out on my acans. At night, he hides in the branches of a Duncan and thinks he's hidden! Really nice fish with lots of...

    So CONFUSED

Some corals play well with each other, others don't. I often see pictures of tanks that have obviously been taken immediately after a BUNCH of corals have been added, all right next to each other. Y'know... bubbles right next to a torch, and the torch right next to a SPS. Looks great at the...

    long tentacle PLATE CORAL

I'd say 6+... but it'll end up moving where it wants to anyway.

    long tentacle PLATE CORAL

Agree with all the info others have given. Also be aware if it positions itself under an area where snails or crabs might fall from. If it does, you may want to gently reposition it to a safer spot. I lost a couple fungia due to snails falling from my rockwork onto the coral. The resulting...

    ICH I beleive

You don't need a pH meter for hypo - all you need for hypo is a refractometer. The liquid drop test kits will work fine to monitor pH, as long as you can interpolate the colors between the saltwater and freshwater color cards. With 1.009 salinity, you're not really saltwater, and not really...

Man Charged with smuggling Coral in Oregon

Just a comment I have regarding news stories that I figured I'd pass along... There have been several times when I've been involved in things that have been picked up and reported on by the news media... both print and TV. In 100% of those cases, the media has never gotten the story right. And...

    Pregnant Cleaner Shrimp?

At least in my tank, a couple days after the shrimp molts, eggs appear. Every time. Think it's pretty common. Think of it as free fish food!
