    Mounting Acans

you can mount them on just about anything and they will encrust....as long as they're getting light and food, they can be on an angle as oppose to just a flat surface...super glue them down and watch them grow. I've had some grow polyps on the underside of plugs that were on racks.

they usually die off as your tank cycles...i just had a client who had alot that came out of the liverock for the first 2 months the tank was set up and then slowly they disappeared. I kind of liked the way they looked jmo

    sugar for cyano

the only thing the sugar is going to do is fuel it...you have to have your system running really well before you even attempt sugar, vodka, vinegar (in any combination)...read read read cuz it's also a great way to crash your system. Cyano can be difficult but focus on consistent water...

    how to frag a chalice

i would say it depends on the piece. How thick is the skeleton, is it a frag that you grew out or a wild colony? With most chalices (I actually just finished fragging a dozen or so colonies for my shop) there is a bit of recession immediately after you frag just keep it clean of detritus/algae...

    Vodka dosing

i've done the vodka dosing with what i would consider great success with my sps...lps and softies were definately not as happy...especially my acans but who can blame them they love the water a bit dirty...as for adding "good" bacteria it can't hurt but it can also get expensive for something...

    LED lighting comparison

I've been using the AquaIllumination 90w units on nearly all of my service accounts. The LED's definitely penetrate the water better then a metal halide. In my opinion a little to well, as it does cause bleaching alot of times on corals as they adjust to the new lighting. With the...

    moving tank question

I guess it's time to chime in here...having just moved my 240g from seattle to san jose for the second time and having moved a heavily stocked tank 10 times in 9 years I'd say I have a bit of experience with this. That aside, everyone has brought up some very valid points. Moving extra water...

transfer existing sand? Yes or No?

keep a bit to seed the new sand and start over...i've moved my tank 7 times in the last 5 years and everytime i move the sand no matter how much i rinse it, it just ends up being a disaster...for my 240g i just scoop some of the top stuff off (maybe 1/3 of a 5g bucket) and start fresh with the...

i was steps behind you...if i wasn't about to pack up my tank and move it back to california, I would have got it for sure...all i can afford is a trade or a frag at this point...either way i have about 70 acans to choose from and a little over a month before i'm leaving the area...no pressure...
