There's so many different ways you can run a tank that work its really up to the owner to decide. Bioballs do there job well. Now adays there's no need for bioballs if you have lr in your tank. A filter sock works great as mechanical filtering. In combination with a skimmer its a great team...
Casa, when you say a cup a week do you mean 8oz or a full collection cup. I have a 125g and i get a good collection cup a week of dark brown every 4 days. I generally average around 12-16oz every 24hrs. That is a full reef with 9 fish that are fed three frozen cubes every other day. Now your...
Just depends on you. Do you want to spend money on a larger skimmer or do you want to keep cleaning your filter sock. If your tank is going well and corals are growing then why mess with what works. If you are having some probs maybe a time for a change.
Sorry man, i know its a pita. The skimmate will pry be pretty tan til your rock and sand is cycled. Then you get tar that smells up the whole house. Your wifey will love it : P
Water level is to high. You need the water level to be about half an inch above the top of the volute. Notice how much lower the water level is compared to your pic. Its pry an inch lower.
Calc always ranges from 400-450, alk is always around 8-9 and mag is always right at 1200. Those ranges haven't moved in the last few yrs.
The only thing i have changed in the last 4mths is the temp and vodka dosing. I stopped dosing vodka and raised the temp from 78-80. Pry two months later i...
It would pry take me 300bux to diy cone as i would screw the first 4 up : ) I don't think there's a high % of people who would do this. But if you can, thats great! If you can build your own cnc then this should be cake man.
For cylinder skimmers yes i wouldn't spend a grand on one no matter what. On cone's its different because they are much harder to make and the normal diy can't make them. So if you plan on making a cone skimmer with an askoll pump it will cost you atleast 200bux for the pump mod and a few...
Only thing i dose is mag and calc. I haven't changed anything in the last 4mths or so. I did end up fragging off the infected piece. So far the colony isn't showing any more signs of this. We'll see what happens i guess. Thanks for the reply.
Gotfish, if you overdrive with the IC660 you must have active cooling for the bulbs or it will kill there life to around 8 mths. If you do have active cooling you can run them for 10-12mths no prob.
If you are wanting MH, roscoe is right on, if you want t5 i'd go with a 4x icecap retro or 4x...
When you rate a cone its a bit different though. I generally use 3-4-5 So if you are using a 900lph cone vs 900lph cylinder you would have this. These are my opinions ofcours but they have been pretty right on in my experience.
Cylinder ratings of 225-150-112.5
Cone ratings of 300- 225-180
Many people calculate them by using 500lph per 100g, some do 400lph per 100g. I use 4lph per g for low, 6 for med and 8 for high. Those with a nicely designed cylinder skimmer seem to be pretty accurate imo.
They are both running about the same. Recirc as 70scfh and in sump at 75scfh, both at 70w with a pf of .53 Personally I'd just use it as in sump. Its just easier.
Ur parameters aren't all good if your tank is full of HA :D
I'm sure its a nitrate or phosphate prob.....
U really need to provide all your equipment your using, how you feed, what kind of flow, do you have a dsb, what all is living in your tank....etc
