    Another SPS ID

I have a few sps I'd like to ID. I have two of these. They are purple/blue bodies with huge polyp's all over them that are orangish rust. When i got them they were 1" but now they are 3" and growing fairly quick. This is a very smooth sps and I can't wait til its grown out. It has grown...

    Mesh mod question

Mesh is bad for return as it doesn't handle the pressure like the original impeller blades do. One is used for chopping up and the other for flow.

    Skimmer pump

Yea, i have the old version of the 70 and it has the impeller fixed in place so its harder to mod. The original cnc 250 or octo pro 250 used that old pump and had nothing but probs with it. I would imagine the new one would work great....hmmm. I wonder how many man's are looking at these...

    Skimmer pump

Looks like the aquaclear 70 is the one that does 15-18scfh after modding. http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_AquariumPage~PageAlias~powerheads_pumps_hagen_aquaclear.html

    Skimmer pump

Don, could you post some pics of this when your done. The aquaclears look to be a nice little pump now. Could be used across the board with any size skimmers.

    Skimmer pump

Last i talked to him he was starting his own forum. He's been pretty scarce the last few mths. Pry burnt of forum's.

    Skimmer pump

Not sure Mark. If they are then they would be great little pump's. The 900gph aquaclear i have needs top shaft support from the volute cover.

    Skimmer pump

The askoll's 1500 max flo's are higher have an impeller that is fixed on the motorblock so there balanced and stay put. All models smaller are just regular meaning the top of the impeller fits in the volute cover. Here's a pic of the 1500. And here's the impeller with balancer on it. Which...

    Skimmer pump

You can buy a pw or meshmod it. Either or works.

Yep, could be like the bk, airstar swc askoll.

    Roscoe's 270g build

That rock work is excellent man, lots of tunnels and spaces, looks really good.

    Skimmer pump

The easiest way to do it is like the coralvue volute. They are hagen motorblocks. The 1500 maxflo and up have balanced impellor's meaning the top nut on the impeller doesn't fit into anything like most pump's. All models under 1500 have that normal front of the volute fits on the impeller...

    skimmer question

Yea man, i put my arm in the tank and it turns sideways and tries to fin me. If i bust out the net he's no where to be found for an hour :D Been tryin to net him for mths. He's way to smart for fish traps too. I think my next option is a mini tarpoon. Man i hate that fish!

    skimmer question

If your new to the hobby read up. And not sure if you know but the foxface has poisonus spines so when your playing in the tank watch him. My two bar rabbitfish tries to stab me.......i hate that thing!

    skimmer question

The bigger the better. Thats already a ton of fish for a 55g so i wouldn't suggest adding any more. The foxface and blue tang will outgrow that tank. For a 55g i'd try and go with a 20g long. The bubble magnus skimmers would be a good fit for that size. The atman pump or the aquabee would...

    Skimmer pump

Its the laguna max flo 1500. Its WAAAY to much for this cone. They run around 120-150bux, then you have to make a volute for it. I've never modded one that would pull less than 50-60scfh and most pull 70-90scfh. Let me know if your still interested and i'll give you some diameters on...

    need help with nitrates

Well, if its the sand that is causing the issue i would remove it. I had to do that once and it was the worst thing i've had to do since i've been in the hobby, but it saved my tank from crashing. But i would see what happens with these water changes first as that is a last resort.

    need help with nitrates

I always think trate probs are associated with sand beds, low flow and your water source. If you are getting lower trate levels with water changes i'd bet on the sand bed. One way you'll know is if your done with the h20 changes and your trates raise back up shortly.
