Let's talk about Bacteria in a Bottle

When I setup a new tank I'm going to do a 50/50, why? Not because I have to, but because I want to be a bit lazy.

Let's talk about Bacteria in a Bottle

Crazy, Based on all your spelling mistakes and addressing the wrong people and ignoring the content of the posts. No one here is saying there is no bacteria in the water, there's just not enough to really effect a mature tank. Krish said it well: Or how about returnofsid:

    Lightning Clown

Agreed 2/3rd of the way there, with all the flames the project got no one can argue that 5 and 6 aren't done. Now you just have to wait for nature to take its course.

    Lightning Clown

His plan is to start breeding them and then selling them to reputable breeders to help propagate this variation. If you read his site, he's all about trying to sustain this variation without over-breeding. This will probably limit the availability for the next few years unless you want to...

Wow, I hadn't realized that he finally found a mate for her. That's great news and a beautiful fish.

    Getting my tank drilled...

I think Rob charges somewhere around 30 per hole drilled. There might be a few glass shops that will drill it, but hopefully someone here will know for sure. I'd go and have the bulk heads in hand though. I know Blue Sierra and Barrier Reef have them along with Red C of course. (Can you tell...

    Vermatid snails

Now that most of my algae is gone and the rocks are starting to look really nice I'm seeing a lot of these tube snails in the tank, they're all over the place (they've been here since the start but I'm seeing a lot more of them now that everything else is looking better). Has anyone found a way...

If you've got two paired up I'd love them. I've been looking for a captive pair everywhere.

I have a question regarding LEDs, PAR, and Growth....

In the grand scheme of things I'm not sure how much the 20% on the blue matters. If blues are 20% low and you're only measuring blues you'll see it. We don't just use blues though, you'll have a mix of white/blue so even at a 60/40 ratio for a very blue look it's probably reading maybe 12%...

I have a question regarding LEDs, PAR, and Growth....

Here's the chart for the LEDs I was looking at. I think that's why people were saying it's about a 20% drop off for measuring the royal blue leds. Which is different than reading 20-30% low (which is what keeps getting repeated).

I have a question regarding LEDs, PAR, and Growth....

Thanks Mojo! Why do you say that it is accurate to the 440-450 range? Shouldn't it be close to the red line if it was properly reading it?

Looks like it is buried in the 80 page thread: Aqua Illuminations LED PAR Readings - Too Low? - Reef Central Online Community

I don't recall which thread it is now... my brain is mush. It might have been that thread.

I have a question regarding LEDs, PAR, and Growth....

Mojo, Buried in the reefcentral DIY led thread is some info related to most PAR measurements being 20-30% low based on how the device that measures the PAR handles the 400-480 spectrum. If I remember correctly they took one of the common PAR measurement devices and compared it with a lab grade...

    How many LEDs

Ok, that makes more sense, sorry I was reading on my phone. If you're only going cover half the tank I think you'd be fine with 12 LED kit. You can choose optics in the kit in preparation for the 55G, how high would the lights be off your 55G? For the test you probably wouldn't want to use...

    How many LEDs

What are the dimensions of the 30 gallon? I'm thinking you might need more like 18-24. How high will the lights be off the water surface? You can email rapidled and usually get a response back in a couple hours.
