    Blue-jaw trigger not eating

For those of you that don't know, this is sarcasm at it's best... Sorry for the loss. Doesn't make any sense for the trigger to pass in only three days from lack of eating. You did not notice anything odd at all about the triggers appearance/behavior otherwise? How was the trigger...

    alkalinity monitor

Agreed with Don. A decently accurate titration kit is usually the way to go (Salifert, Hach, LaMotte ect). Probes are in constant need of calibration, cleaning and replacing. Digital equipment is generally a little more accurate but by no means more convenient.

    coral beauty problems

Euthanasia would be something to consider at this point. Clove oil (from the health food store) would be the most humane method. By the sounds of it, the fish has a severe internal bacterial infection. This can be rather difficult to remedy, especially if the fish is not eating. Proper...

    Food Mix

I don't recommend you feed your fish salmon, so no, don't buy one unless you are personally looking to consume a Sockeye smoothie :p What I mean in terms of whole foods is just that. Don't just feed the meat, feed the head and gut as well. Obviously keeping food sizes relative to the fish your...

Is it ok to have a foxface in a 90?

Can you be a lot more specific? The more detailed information you provide me, the more accurate the responses/recommendations will be. Given the information I have so far I would not suggest additional fish.

    Trachyphillia g. ?

Your statements are becoming less general and more specific! The problems you keep stating are the same that many have and the solutions are almost always the same. Improve the conditions creating it. It is often just as simple as it sounds. The exception being knowing what's creating...

Is it ok to have a foxface in a 90?

Depends on the species you want and what type of thank this. Just on the sheer number of fish I would say to a great idea. Please provide more information about the system set up, type of tank and the actual species of Foxface that strikes your fancy.

HLLE Head and Lateral Line Erosion

The large splotches are the dead give away yes but the pits located in the front area of the fish are enlarged and would be the first indicator that a more serious problem (the splotches) are not too far away. The presence of the pits are normal, the size is not.

    Protein Skimmers

It would help to know more about the tank/tank set up, what you plan on keeping etc. Brands are one thing but often set up along with the eventual goal of what you plan on keeping can help determine the actual model. Might read through here as well...

    Trachyphillia g. ?

I have missed nothing at all. The underlined sentence is exactly the problem and is also the solution. Knowing why they fluctuate gives us clues on how to fix it so it does not continue. To say that they are to be expected and not an issue to be addressed is incorrect. However it's solved...

    Blue-jaw trigger not eating

The directions should say 1 cap per 25 gal? If not I would use 2-3 for a 55 gal. Be sure to remove any carbon/adsorbant media for a few hours after adding to allow for maximum effect. Just remember top return it later.

    Food Mix

No need for that much garlic, a little goes along way. Too much can easily confuse the senses of the fish and it can pollute the tank. Besides that, it's benefits are not what most think. A decent antioxidant to be sure but that's about it. One clove or a teaspoon would be more than plenty. Nix...

    Blue-jaw trigger not eating

As noted it's quite common for this (most fish) not to eat immediately. With the trigger, it can easily be days before they show interest. Many stress very easily and can affect their appetite and behavior quite severely. Lowering the salinity as suggested would help but no lower than 21 ppt...

    Brackish transformation.

Certain brackish fish species can be transitioned over to full salt, others cannot. It's not that "black & white" so to speak. Some will do just fine, others while they will tolerate the change, see their live spans shortened to a certain degree. Scats in particular (species?), can and are kept...

HLLE Head and Lateral Line Erosion

That is definitely the onset of MHLLE. It is still in the early stages and could clear up with the right care. As it progresses you will see the faded blotches become black and pitted. Keep in mind that food/nutrition alone is not the only concern. A proper environment large/clean enough for it...

    Trachyphillia g. ?

Your approaching this as a means of toleration or hobbyist acceptance of what's become popular. I can assure you, in terms of pH, this does your animals/system no service. CO2 is atmospheric and easily equalized. As long as gas exchange remains optimum, there is absolutely no reason for large...

    Fish feeding help

Tim, In the current tank, a Gobiodon okinawae will not survive. In an upgraded system that's had 6-12 months to mature into a FOWLR or reef would do fine. I can see how over time and reading many hobbyist (not just yourself) contribute success to good water quality and lack of death. I can...

Exactly what coral will they nip ?

A tang of any species would be a poor choice for a 46 gal bow, nix that idea all together. The BiColor blenny would be fine though. Clown goby will be hit and miss, I would suggest a Citron (Gobiodon citrinus) instead. Much better success rate. Keep in mind that either could irritate corals to...

    Trachyphillia g. ?

So aside from letting the chem get back to NSW levels, also look for direct problems as I mentioned above. Are the crowns of the coral flesh touching/rubbing on rock, are they too close to another coral, is the water flow coming at them too strongly or in a laminar fashion. Direct sustained flow...

    How Do You Eliminate Aiptasia?

Not as easy as you might think. It's really a matter of knowing there could be a difference and knowing what you want, not necessarily what you don't. The L. californica is pretty easy to spot but the L. rathbunae is usually the one that gets mistaken easily. Note the stripped patterns on the...
