    DIY cone pyramid skimmer

Thank you for your suggestion, I will include smoother transition in my next build. I can adjust the bubble flow to laminar (non-turbulant) by messing with the air intake. I think I can retro the current one but it will be a little messy.

    Skimmer discussion thread

I saw a few new cones skimmers from SWC & WM. But, going with the cones; I am not sure if they carry the capacity that you need. Maybe, the SWC & WM can chime in. These are so new that I can't seem to google them on the any forums besides the announcement of their lines and features. Owners of...

    Skimmer discussion thread

Kris, Your 390gal tank has an in sump skimmer the last time I saw it. You also said, Bubble King skimmer was next on the list. Are you looking for more info on BK or other similarly capacity skimmer? If so, based on my searches on US, UK and German forum the lastest skimmers are per described...

Yes, larger volute mod with 1.5" fitting. Lathe down and added oring cut. Then clamp after thought. I'll incorporate it next time. Maxijet 1800 mod with also fit the 3000. 1800lph - 474gph & 3000lph - 774gph. I am stuck with the laguna 5000 mod since I have 4 of them. Red Dragon Mod per BK and...

    DIY cone pyramid skimmer

I have had the tangs for almost 10 years in the tank. Bought them wholesale when they were cute 1.5" long. Probably $2000 worth of food by now. Yep, the neck is too small. But that is all that was available in the remnant section of the local plastic store. $30 for 3' of 2.25" clear blue tube...

    DIY cone pyramid skimmer

Yes, that is based on the ATB pyramid because I can build it with all my garage shop tools. I am trying to figure out how to make or buy a cone shaped acrylic. Slight accumulation on the pyramid corner of bubbles but it can be solved with proper adjustment and bubble plate design IMHO...

    DIY cone pyramid skimmer

Thank you for your kind words. I dont have enough space to take a wide angle shot of the whole skimmer - 24" tall (bad planning on my part). I'll take a full shot when I reconfigure it again. Tank is about 155 gal total with Carlson surge flusher (old school). Bioload: 3 large purple tank...

    Reeflux 400w 12K - glass shard inside

Yes, they don't look normal. Pieces came from the glass that encased the rod next to the center/nipple/arc piece. I guess it is for heat insulation of the steel rod that may bend and shatter the arc/nipple piece when rapidly heated and cooled by on /off cycle. I'll try and contact them again...

    Reeflux 400w 12K - glass shard inside

I just received the bulb with glass pieces from reefdepot and emailed them and they replied: "the glass pieces that are floating around are normal.. it happens in 90% of the reeflux bulbs. as long as the bulb itself isnt broken.. its fine.. it should fire right up. this is from the...

    Melafix..red bugs

Looks like the Steve Tyree tip on the Melafix works. I dipped all the corals I bought from nwcfm last Saturday that night per perscribed by Tyree. Cool, now we know for sure.

    Nwcfm?

It will eliminate crabs, flatworms, red bugs, copepods etc - except for the coral itself. Needs a good shake so that the dead or dying hangers on fall off. I just put a strong powerhead to the 1/2 gal mix dip instead of shaking. The sps just slimed a lot.

    Nwcfm?

We made this year. There was 7 vendors, auctions every hour on the hour, raffles every hour half an hour after the auction and door prizes every half and hour. I would say about 100 attendees thru out the day. Lots of rare sps from Steve Tyree and upscales.com. One ricordea only vendor. One...
