    Bad News

+1 on that post kirkland...I was thinking about buying that. p.s. If you have a Costco membership, get the generator there! They're half the price of a Honda dealer. I looked today and they have a 7,000 watt one (Honda) for just over $1,000.

    PVC primer and cement

...and a little primer goes a long way. Every time I glue something I forget about that and the stuff runs all over the place--instantly stains whatever it touches purple!

    hydrometer accuracy?

ARGHGHGH %^&*@*&#^!!! figures lol Thanks for the information Boomer. I found this portable refractor on Doc Fosters & Smith for 1/2 the price of the other one, is the other one worth the extra $$$? Figures, I just ordered the REEF FANATIC TOP-OFF LEVEL CONTROLLER from that site yesterday...

    hydrometer accuracy?

OK, quick question hopefully. We're currently using cheapo plastic Deep Six and Instant Ocean hydrometers and they generally give us different salinity readings. I've been sticking with the Deep Six one as that's what I started with and everything in the tank seems happy, but the fact that the...

    PVC primer and cement

Me too. Just let the primer dry before applying the cement or else your pipes will have purple smears all over them...at least that's what I've heard :-)

    Sump sanity check

Still waiting on the skimmer to get here, but I tested the tank with the sump I made and it's working like a charm!

    Silly bulkhead question

OK, cool thanks all. I'll plumber tape the pipe heading down to the sump. I screwed in the bulkhead pretty tight and I doubt anything will be leaking from there any time soon (famous last words right).

    Silly bulkhead question

OK nevermind, found an answer: "Now wrap the threads of the male bushing with plumbing tape and then screw the female bushing on. Its best not to use PVC glue because this joint could never be undone and its not necessary. The gasket and the plubming tape will ensure that the joint is water...

    Silly bulkhead question

OK, here's what may be a silly question, but I want to be sure before I ruin something. I'm replacing the bulkhead on my overflow (got it without one installed) and wondering if I need to use silicone to seal it on top of the seal that comes with it or super glue it to make sure it never...

    Polyps are taking over!

That is insane! Those things are out of control!!!

    Sump sanity check

Oh nice! Glad to hear it's a good one. I won't be modifying mine for a while, but in the meantime...I'm seeing two different footprint sizes for this skimmer depending on which site I look at. I see both 6" x 12" and 10" x 9" for it. My problem is: the sump compartment I've made for it is 8" x...

    Sump sanity check

Now that was a good idea...wonder why I didn't think of that?!?! According to that calculator I only need 3 1/2g unused space in my sump to handle the overflow box being 1" below the surface. I don't think it will be that low in the water so I think I'm good (I'm still going to chant as I fill...

    Sump sanity check

Yep, I'm looking at getting an Octopus NW 150 skimmer for it. Should know by the end of the week if the sump overflows lol

    Nice tank!

    Nice tank!

    Sump sanity check

Hi all, I'm trying to make a sump for a 72g bowfront using a 20g long tank and wondering if this design makes any sense. I've got a CPR CS100 overflow (rated at 800gph) and a Rio HyperFlow 26HF (figure it will be pumping about 1140gph after adding in around 6' of head) going to a SCWD and then...
