    xenia dying---nitrates---water changes?

No doubt they are proud of the poly filters but they really are worth it when you need them. If you have any remnants left in your tank a poly filter is your best bet for being able to remove the largest spectrum of pollutants including metals. Water changes will work through dilution "and you...

    xenia dying---nitrates---water changes?

Glad you found it. I would suggest you add a poly filter also and do a water change or two. Poly filter link: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=4335&N=2004+113810

    Nitroimidezoles?

dabears26 The LFS isn't doing you any favors. Do some more research on malachite green. It is NOT reef safe This is just one guys opinion but I think you should pull all your fish out and treat in a quarantine tank or not treat at all, and wait to see if it clears up. There is no quick fix...

    Nitroimidezoles?

I have used it and no it doesn't work! I think there are a small amount of success stories out there but most likely the crypt cleared up due to the fishes own immunity and good husbandry as yours may if you give it time and keep a close eye on it. In the mean time you can get a quarantine tank...

    How to start Hyposalinity?

I Would quarantine all of them and let your main system run without fish for at least a month this will cause the parasites do die out and you will be free of them as long as you quarantine in the future

    Water parameters problems

*********QUOTE********* I haven't tried mixing salt brands. I used Oceanic, but found the excessive calcium and magnesium levels too difficult to deal with. The alk was always rock bottom, so I ditched it and went to IO. I have read of people mixing the two, but I'm not sure at what ratio is...

    Water parameters problems

phos and nitrate will come down with some larger water changes and cutting back on organics "like fish food" maybe feed lightly every other day to get it under control. I hate to brand bash but a salt mix that is more balanced would really help like IO

    Water parameters problems

mmkeeper is correct if you buffer your alk to about 3.5 to 4.00 "over a period of days" it will force the calcium down, rais your ph a bit and clear the haze up, what you are seeing is the calcium precipitating from your water. However, you may continue to have this issue with the Oceanic salt...

Is 4 watts per gallon enough ??

Most likely yes. However, What type of lighting do you have? What type of corals do you want to keep, or are you looking for advise on that, and is this a 48" 55 gallon

Mithrax did it for me.... only one in a 100gal Maybe you have a picky one. I also have a blue tuxedo urchin and all I have seen him eat is Coralline algae, he can strip it clean from the live rock like it was never there.

    Softie getting to BIG!

I have what I believe to be a Actinodiscus aka: True Elephant Ear "not a fish eating rodactus". This picture is a bit dated. It is currently about 15" or 16" diameter when extended during the day and has 7 mouths "looks like a really cool cup coral" I was considering selling it but want to know...

    xenia dying---nitrates---water changes?

Do you have an alkalinity test kit. With calcium fluctuations you will also have alkalinity fluctuations and with the addition of kalk I would suspect low alkalinity is a real possibility What brand of salt do you use, did you recently change?

    Who cultures Copepods??

Hey Becky, To see the pods try shining a flashlight at one end of the tank at night when there are no other lights and you may find hundreds gathering to the light. This is also a good way to collect them with a siphon or turkey baster. I might add that my daughter did her junior high science...
