    sump plumbing question

Hi James, Well everyone does this a bit different but here is my experience. I have tanks in two rooms that use a common sump. The closest tank has 1" flex hose from the pump to the display and all pvc for the drain. The other tank has all pvc both directions. I think it is personal preference...

By Joe I think I found the problem

Even if you steal it's food, the algae will hang around for two weeks or so. Give a shout this way anytime, it is always better to have another person around, that way you have someone to blame when water hits the floor :-)

    Cold Water Tank?

As stated above, if you have a shellfish and seaweed license you can collect most anything. The real problem to watch for is undersized or out of season game. If it is not in the regs, it is ok to collect, but there are several animals that have size restrictions like Dungeoness crab. If you...

By Joe I think I found the problem

Glad that you will no longer have to sleep with one ear cocked for the sound of spilling water! Power heads are a bit unsightly, but a necessary evil for coral unless you do a closed loop. Water movement is what keeps detritus from landing on structure and feeding algae/bacteria. It is not...

    Cold Water Tank?

Hi Matt, I had a 120gal cold water tank for two years. I just took it down 2 months ago as my son went to europe for college, and he helped carry the water :-) We had a great time looking for new things while diving, and much of what did well in the tank came from the intertidal areas. We...

Do we have a date for the frag/ident thingy at my place? I never heard for sure. I might have a computer kicking around that we can use :-) Slick idea Alex, I wish I had done that from the start. I really like the idea of doing a list, and I like even more that someone else is going to keep...

    Double post message???

I too am having this issue, I notice that it does not happen in IE, only (for me) in Chrome.

Stocking clownfish - how many, in what order?

If all of the ocellaris you add are known to be very young (size is NOT always a good indicator) and they have not yet sexed, then you can sometimes get away with three. One will become female, one male, and one will remain sexually immature. Sometimes the paired fish will kill the extra, but...

Do look at using an auto-top off though, it makes life easier, and keeps your salinity perfect.

    Newbie Starting, Please Help

The overflow that I am talking about is often called a herbie overflow. There is a diagram partway down this page Herbie Overflow Plumbing that shows the idea. The common method to control noise is a "durso" stand pipe. It works pretty well, but the herbie method is totally silent. You need...

    Greatings from Whidbey Island

Very nice Dave! Ed: I have some Coral Rx that you can use if you just want to do a dip. Well it's actually Justforfun's, but I'm sure he wont mind if you use some. It's my turn to buy when we run out anyway :-) We have the BIG bottle. Floyd: Well, I was planning to drive over, but it looks...

    Newbie Starting, Please Help

Hi Holidayz, Welcome to RF! Built-in overflow for sure. You will collect some stuff in there, but it should be no issue. I cleaned mine at 9 months when I changed the lights. Check into the type of overflow, for dead silent you can't beat a full siphon, but you will need to drill a third hole...

    Greatings from Whidbey Island

I see the issue. The quick fix is to bring the returns up from the bottom of the tank to a point high enough that you will not siphon more than your sump can hold. Ugly? Maybe, but your floor will stay dry until you make the change :-) Paint the plumbing black, and Bob's your uncle! -Todd
