    Aquabee vs Eheim

Wow, $170 to have a venturi and needle wheel added. Guess they have to protect the protein skimmer mfgs from DIYs.

Time to get started on the 180

Hey Stan, I've got a couple MD40RLXT Japanese Motored Iwaki Water Pumps that were only run for a few months that I'll sell for $175 each if you're interested. I've also got a lot of extra plumbing (all schedule 80) as I bought everything for a closed loop on my 375 and then decided to go with...

    Vortech Pump

I've worked in the in the new product industry for long enough to know that going from prototype to production never goes as smoothly as you'd like. I also read a post on RC where I believe a spokesmen for the product said it would be comparatively priced to the Tunze. It's hard to believe...

    Vortech Pump

That's true. The design I am working on has a Tunze in the corner at a 45 from the side and the back. I am also not sure about the aesthetics of having the motor sticking out on the ends of the tank, although keeping electricity and heat out of the tank is certainly a plus. But one of the...

    Vortech Pump

One disadvantage of the Vortech is that your flow has to be perpendicular to the glass as opposed to a Tunze which can be set at an angle. Tom

    MH lamp placement

The Dimensions of the Luminarc mini reflector are 14.5"W x 14.5"H x 6.5"H and are available at ReefExotics. I hope they work well as I purchased some for my new tank:-) I went with the mini's so I'd have room for VHO. Thanks for the info Nikki. Tom

Ive got this wierd little tank

A couple of questions about using a "surge system" on a reef tank: 1. How would you maintain top-off water level if your sump level was changing by ~20 gallons every few minutes? 2. How would you deal with the extra flow through the overflow, would you maintain a lower water level in the tank...

    Snow

Yes it definitely takes a line drive and apparently the highest trajectory you can get without a face plant. Took about a dozen tries determining that a line drive and bounce worked the best then a few dozen more getting the timing down. I am sure there’s a mathematical peak, but only the...

Running Dual Pumps on one Line

Have you tried turning off the submersible pump to see if you still get micro bubbles? The bubbles were probably either coming from air trapped in the line (which now should be gone) or a leak in the line. Tom

    Silverside and my RBTA

So what does everyone feed their RBTA? A quote from Anthony “the silversides are arguably of little value. The sightless stinging animal will of course sting it and draw it in. But most certainly regurgitate this unnaturally large portion at night with respiration. The "rule" for anemones...
