Need help with true perculas laying eggs

Congrats on your fish laying eggs however if you are not familiar with how to rear clown larva i would not attempt to raise this batch. There is a whole lot to learn and it takes quite a bit of time and preparation. I would suggest you let this batch go and buy and read this book first...

How difficult is it to breed clams?

Some clams may spawn at 3" but they will only produce sperm at that size. It can take clams 10 years to become sexually mature as a female.

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

My tank is doing great without running a chiller and allowing the temp to swing. Here's a one year growth shot and i also breed two species of clown fish from this system along with a breeding pair of flame angles and hippo tangs, not to mention the many clams i have that are doing just...

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

And this proves what? That people are keeping their tanks at an unnatural temp with no variation?

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

We aren't (at least im not) talking about just one animal. But we are talking about tropical reef animals in general. And in general they all come from relatively the same environments, and none of these environments consists of 78 to 80 degrees with no variation in temperature.

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

Half? not even close. A fraction of what we keep is captive raised. Even if everything in your tank is captive raised what makes you think that a few years in an aquarium will affect the evolutionary adaptations that these animals have developed? Why? Wild reefs aren't like this, Why...

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

Not good:razz: I want to bring this up again since the OP asked for this specifically. Why would you take an animal that comes from water that averages about 84 with daily/hourly/by the minute swings that can range from 78 to 90 and place it in water at the lower end of its range and never...

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

If you look at what happens out on a wild reef, quick drastic temp changes are exactly what happens. The problems come from us trying to control these changes and trying to make everything stable. The example you used is a perfect example of why keeping our tanks at a static temp is not good, if...

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

Heres a quote from Greenbean on the oxygen issue from this thread http://www.reefaquariumforum.com/reefkeeping-myths-t3397.html The granddaddy of all reefing myths- Temperature! The ideal temp for reef tanks is about 77-80 Well this certainly isn't a bad range, but it's not necessarily ideal...

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

Not for clams how? Clams come from the same areas as most of our corals. The OP wanted data. Im not seeing any data from anyone, just "no your wrong" Read the links i posted. The links i posted give temp readings from surface to about 300 feet.

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

Whats the lol for? By keeping corals at an unnaturally low and unnaturally static temp the coral becomes conditioned to these low/static temps so in the unlikely event that something happens in our tanks and the temp raises above what it has become conditioned to the corals cant handle it. The...

    Ideal Reef water temperature?

In nature water temps are anything but consistent. Temps fluctuate wildly and rapidly. There's a link to a study here Water Temperatures on the Palauan Reef Tract

    Remineralize RO/DI with what?

Don, this go's back to people thinking that RO water drives down their PH because it in its self has a lower PH then saltwater. The act of adding salt mix to fresh water (ro/di) is reminaralizing

    treating (trying to) pinched mantle

i lost 12 of 20 clams at the height of my PM ordeal. i tried every treatment from iodine, metro to prazi and none of them worked. i finally got rid of it and have been PM free for a few years by just adding a ton of carbon in a very high flow reactor. for me the condition cleared up over night.

    Calcium Levels Disagreement

no one mentioned that your SG is low. if you raise it up to NSW levels 1.026 you will have a higher Ca level. and as another poster said you dont need to adjust for the volume of reagent in the tip. just pull back the plunger to where you are supposed to and take your final reading at the...
