    bonehead move x2

i dropped my refractometer into our water makeup container:oops: ive already taken it apart as much as i can to dry it out and then i set it on the outlet of our AC to try to get as much moisture out as i can but now when i try to use it the blue half slowly fades away to white in about 15...

Can you help my gaping Crocea? Picture

Croceas tend to hold there in-current syphons open more then other species, i wouldnt be too concerned about it. what you are calling(and many others)gaping isnt really gaping. this is a gaping clam

    Adding buffer and calcium

dont use the instructions on the bottle. when they printed the bottle they had no way of knowing what YOU have in you tank or how fast YOUR usage is. use this to tell you how much to add http://reef.diesyst.com/ and always test for anything you add. if you cant test for it dont add it

seriously can not figure it out!!!

reading the quotes you posted, who said anything about using water changes to maintain Ca/Alk and Mg?

seriously can not figure it out!!!

from the link Aquarists often think that many small changes are not as efficient as one big change since some of the water in all subsequent changes was already replaced by earlier changes. This is a correct assertion, but it is often overstressed. After changing 10% three times, only 10% of...

seriously can not figure it out!!!

scooty read this http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-10/rhf/index.php regular water changes are the best and if you've missed a few then one large one might be better but if you plan on doing water changes as a regular routine, smaller/more frequent is much more stable=better

the gate valve mod will allow you to adjust the level of skimming alot better then you can now. you dont need any glue or anything, just the parts.

Help: Some "mushroom-like" stuff is growing wild...

never said they were desirable. i have seen a few people use FWE to the T and still kill fish. there are still other ways then to dump chemicals into the tank. just like cyano, you can dump erithomyacin into the tank and fix the symptom, or you can fix the cause. red planaria are grazers, they...

Help: Some "mushroom-like" stuff is growing wild...

i agree with trido. this type of flat worm is harmless. i had them a few years ago. at first i siphoned them out from time to time but noticed that they wernt bothering anything, so i let them be and they slowly faded away on there own

    Lighting acclimation

they should be fine for a week under the light you have now. when you get your new lights i would move them down, if they attach its pretty easy to remove them(let us know when the time comes) i would still acclimate the whole tank to the new lighting. cut 5 or 6 pieces of fiberglass screening...

    Another Clam Separation Problem

rayjay i think your making a lot more work for your self then you need. a 12" clam shouldn't weight more then 5 or 6#. you only need to tip it a little to get the knife under it. dont be afraid to put some pressure on the threads as long as your not a bull in a china closet. the byssal gland in...

    Another Clam Separation Problem

i wouldn't chisel or drill in the tank. take a long fillet knife and tip the clam to one side as far as you can and then slide the knife along the rock under the clam. if you cant do this while the clam and rock are in the tank then remove both and do it out side of the tank. a little pressure...
