    Feeling a tad homesick...

http://pics.llarian.net/albums/pans/aaf.jpg Picture I took last year. It was a technical experiment, so some of the middle is blurry, but it might remind you of home a bit. =) -Dylan

    Moonlights: Good, bad, ugly?

Somebody brought this up in Krish's DIY moonlight thread, and I've noticed it in my own tank so I figured I'd ask here. =) Are moonlights detrimental to things like zoanthids that stay open even when exposed to the low intensity light of the moonlights? I've noticed one small cluster of...

Oh, absolutely. I was just providing that as a datapoint. =) -D

    Trumpets

Mine are quite happy about 2/3 of the way up my 20H tank w/ PC lighting (2x65W) They didn't do as well lower than that. -Dylan

    Anemone, aiptasia, coral...?

I've had these all over my nano for years. They don't appear to harm anything, and nothing appears to eat them. Probably no harm in keeping it. (I'm still not sold on it being cup coral if they're the same as mine, on account of the tentacles not being tapered) -Dylan

OT: Does anyone know of a CD with a good interest rate?

Drawing from the CD before it matures? I don't think you're going to have much luck with that, that's not usually how they work. I was trying to figure this out recently as well and ended up getting an ING Direct savings account at 4.25% instead of doing the CD ladder thing, just so I could...

How to tell the sex of a fish

Firefish are gender monochromatic, so its a real pain. I've never seen any noticable dorsal fin difference, but that's the only way to tell from anything I've read. -Dylan

    Carbon filter media

Black Diamond gets a lot of good reviews and is easy to get. That's the one I use. Polyfilters are nitrate sinks, I'd avoid them. -Dylan

    Looking to buy boat. Advice?

Yep, if it doesn't have a mast and at least 2 sails, its not worth buying. :P But that's not really what you were looking for I don't think. heh -Dylan

    What is your favorite heater?

Ah. I thought Ebo Jager was no longer being made. I'd be thrilled to be mistaken about that. =) -Dylan

    What is your favorite heater?

The Jager heaters aren't fully submersible, are they? I wouldn't mind a reccomendation for a fully submersible. I use a won bros for heating salt mix, but I don't trust one in my tank. -Dylan

    Brand of Salt preferred

Out of curiosity, any of the people using Reef Crystals have much opinion of it? Because of a size of my tank, a Ca reactor is impractical, so I could use a higher Ca and Alk to begin with. -Dylan

    Letting your tank evolve

I very much take this approach, although I only have a nano currently. I'm just as happy watching the 1/8" growth on the side of my favia, or a couple new zoo polyps as they expend and meet other zoo colonies, as I am with having a huge diversity and adding species all the time. Unless...

    Cutting thin acrylic?

I thought about that, but with the angle the acrylic meets the top I'm not sure how well that'd hold. I'm thinking I can bend out the acrylic in the corners to make tabs I could screw to something that's siliconed to the inside top of the hood. That would probabnly work. Just not sure what to...

    Cutting thin acrylic?

Ok, next question. =) I'm going to just silicon the ballasts w/ bulbs (the ballast and socket are integrated with the 13W CF bulbs) to the underside of the hood for mounting that part, as they can be semi-permanent. However, anybody have any suggestions for how to mount the acrylic shield...

    Cheap carbon?

ROWAUSA, what're the weights for the varying container sizes, out of curiosity? -Dylan
