Air stone skimmers: Beware of the wrong items sent!!

OK guys, I think some might have gone a little past the "enough flack line" on poor Dan (aquariumdebacle). The only reason I made the thread was to inform others that, like myself, may not have a clue as to what they got vs what they payed for and ordered. Everybody I know of at least that has...

Air stone skimmers: Beware of the wrong items sent!!

UPDATE I just got off the phone with Mildred and Heidi from AES. Mildred is who I had spoken to last week. She tells me that she went to the warehouse physically and pulled one of each. The fine pore ones definately have a BLUE ring around the CPVC part while the medium pore difusers have a red...

Air stone skimmers: Beware of the wrong items sent!!

I guess your post is the prime example of not reading or being unable to read and replying to something as you please just because you have the time to kill. Go to the original post above and re-read it again. ;) ;)

Air stone skimmers: Beware of the wrong items sent!!

As most of you either know or have seen by now, I also got a large air stone skimmer made not too long ago. After running it for a few weeks, I felt I was not getting what others had described. Originally I thought maybe the unit was still breaking in, but after a while I started to wonder if...

    actuated valve for topoff

This little thing may be a great option for folks with wetnecks. Put one on and it comes on like 6-8 times per day for a couple of minutes to basicly rinse off the neck instead of running a wet neck all the time. I may look into this one.

A 750g SPS system is born

I have a friend at a wholeseller facility. I am going to try another wholeseller in Miami, that way we can pick the bigger ones personally rather than relying on shipping them from across the country.

A 750g SPS system is born

Thanks for the suggestion, but I doubt I will go that far. I ahve to be extra careful to add anything in this tank because as pointed out, it is only coming out in one of two ways: 1. as a carcus picked up by me 2. through the skimmer as decompossed proteins in the water:badgrin: :badgrin...

    400 Gal sunroom reef

The only thing I would suggest would be to maybe add a 3rd reflector with 250 watt and lower them all a tiny bit instead. You'll get your spread, more intensity, and you electric bill is still 50 watt less than 2x400 watt. You do have an extra bulb to replace yearly though. However, even with...

Ask your LFS if they can order them for you. They are a pretty common item in the wholesaler's lists. Otherwise you can volunteer to get raped by reefermadness. they are asking $29, which I think is literally insane!!!! http://www.reefermadness.us/RMD_Chelidonura_varians.htm

A 750g SPS system is born

Some people have reported annecdotally that their green mandarin have eaten them too. However, this anecdotally. I doubt the butterflies are any good at eating these bugs though.

A 750g SPS system is born

I posted this in my local club's forum, but here it is also so it can help others. Well, since I just found out my acros had been dying due to the acro eating flatworms, I did a little more reserch to fnd a suitable solution. As I was doing this, I realized that in the last 2 years, I, or...

A 750g SPS system is born

I know a lot of you ahve seen these bugs, especially in the threads Mark posted above, but here is what they looked like after getting dessicated.

A 750g SPS system is born

Travis: Thanks for the heads up. I saw his post. It was the thread SeanT started about them. I am getting the nudibranchs to start the tank treatment and will see if I can get my hands on some levimasole to dip incoming stuff and the one colonies I can get out. There is lots of stuff in the...

A 750g SPS system is born

Nick: Thanks for the info. It does help. Most of the threads I ahve read about it had someone try FE at multiple dosages and times without replicable results of success. Iodine has also been reported by many people not to work even at very toxic concentrations. Like I said above, the only solid...

A 750g SPS system is born

Well, today I just found the reason for 2/3 of my acros dying over the last 8-9 weeks. ACROPORA EATING FLATWORMS:mad:   I had checked for these maladies before and never saw one. Today I took a colony that was almost dead and after shaking it to the point of making sure it was...

    Chiller recommendation

The 1/3 HP should be mor ethan plenty for the hottest of weathers. As far as brands go, I would say a JBJ or Aqualogic are good brands. Whatever you do, don't get a pacific coast chiller. Mine and 3 other people I know that have had them for less than a year are nothing but mierda!

A 750g SPS system is born

Travis: It is a little hard to compare. One thing that is surprising to me in the needle wheel skimmers is the lack of turbulence inside the main chamber. Beckets have and can have a ton. Mine I think is in the middle of the pack. I think the advantage the needle wheel has over this one to...

A 750g SPS system is born

It works well. However, as I suspected, you need a very level skimmer to make sure it works very very well all around the entire neck. My garage floor is slanted forward some, so I had put some shimming on the front of the skimmer thinking it would make it completely level. Turns out it was too...

A 750g SPS system is born

Thanks for the tip. There is no odor whatsoever in the garage because there is so much air circulation. The better part is that even if there was a stench there, my wife could sit in front of it for days and not know it. When she was a teenager she broke her nose and has not been able to smell...

A 750g SPS system is born

This is what it looked like when it first was set up. I have been running it since, and have not cleaned it once since. I am doing that tomorrow. Below are a few from about 10 min. ago. You may notice that the entire body of the skimmer is dirty and not just the neck. The reason is because my...
