A 750g SPS system is born

It did scare me because it was like an explosion with 10+g of water errupting through the top of it.   Bad things never seem to stop occuring. This morning my temp alarm goes off. Turns out my chiller was dead!! I tried to troubleshoot what I could and then Called Pacific...

A 750g SPS system is born

There is a T with a valve somewhat opened in it. You just don't see it. It is to bleed air out. So I guess it will work the same way.

A 750g SPS system is born

Well, finally yesterday I managed to clear the area in the garage where it will go, fix some other things there as well, cleaned the skimmer, got it assembled, and got it installed. I took the advice of someone here and ditched the little manifold with the check valve. I have been telling people...

    Some cool fish

Mike: Very colorfull choices. As for the anthias, I would hope you already have a small school of other types so those maybe get the hint of eating. Msot people have a terrible time with them eating. Best of luck. I currently have a pair of mystery wrasses. Try getting them as larger adults...

    The Bahamas SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really    :D :D :D Think of it this way Bahamas boy. YOu now have more time to sit around in a hammock by the water and just look at the waves rolling in while listening to some nice music and sipping on some coconut water with a little honey! It is human nature to hate...

A 750g SPS system is born

That is what I originally wanted and was going to do. However, the thought of having to run long lines and having to build a "shelf" to hold it, making maintenance and access a lot more difficult was what got me thinking of other alternatives. I am still very hesitant about his little manifold...

A 750g SPS system is born

That is not what happened. The litermeter pumps rollers need to be cleaned every so often because they collect crap and change the volume of delivery. That is what happened. My litermeter gets water from a 55g drum and pumps it into the kalk reactor, which overflows into the sump. No a problem...

A 750g SPS system is born

OK, so I finally finished the skimmer. All that is left to do is to pop it in place and turn it on. I was going to try to do it tonite, but before I put the skimmer in place I need to tend to other stuff around where it is going to be located. Night time is the worst time to be moving important...

A 750g SPS system is born

When something can go wrong, it WILL go wrong!! So, it turns out the iwaki 40 I had been saving to feed the skimmer is now dead! I am getting another pump from a fellow reefer locally hopefully tomorrow or this week at some point. Also, my kalk reactor is now empty, my alk is 6, and the solenoid...

    Show your filtration Systems

Thanks. The set up is actually very simple, as is Mike's (mojoreef). It is just the same as everyone else's but super sized to fit the appropriate water volume. Nothing special really. It is a heck of a lot easier to set up with things automated and things very conveniently located once you have...

    Show your filtration Systems

OK. Here are a couple of mine. Not much has changed since these pictures. The biggest change will be swapping the skimmer pretty soon.

    O.K Here it is...Atlantis!

Thanks for the invitation. I may take you up on it at some point. It is less than an hour fly from West Palm for me. The only thing is it was a little too commercialized for my taste. Most people when they think of going to a caribbean island they think of drinking a lot at the all inclussive...

    O.K Here it is...Atlantis!

Atlantis is impressive though. I just came back from spending 4 days in Nassau. I stayed 2 hotels down from Atlantis. Walked over one morning to check it out. Very very nice.Too bad me and the wife are not into hotels or we would had stayed there. I had never been to Nassau before (went to...

A 750g SPS system is born

The box is 12"x16"x16", so that is 13.2g. Them there is the mixing chamber, which is 12" diameter x 60" tall. That is another 29.4g. Maybe I calculated this wrong, but I think it is about 42g give or take a little. I just came back from spending a few days in Nassau with the kids and wife. I...

Recommendations for reef safe schooling fish

I will admit I just skimmed through the thread and did not read everything, so forgive me if it has been said already. Schools of any fish will not last in a tank. Schooling is a defensive mechanism that fish adopt in the wild to decrease the chances of getting attached or eating by predators...

    Let's Talk About ~Algae Control~

I just skimmed through the entire 9 pages. Lots and lots of valid points. I am amazed, however, nobody has mentioned urchins as algae control as a single urchin will process far more in one hour than 300 crabs in a week!! These things are true lawn mowers, and althought they will not all eat...

600 Gallon Mixed Reef: Looking for input

That picture Nikki posted is what I was refering to. This is a nice concept for smaller to medium tanks. It is basicly a tunze stream that was cut in half with the motor part on the outside and the impeller section on the inside. A magnet in each unit hold it together on the glass and also is...
