    400 Gal sunroom reef

Definitely suspended lights - probably just 2 or 3 250W or 400W 10K - pendants. The room (even on dark, cloudy days) is probably 3 or 4 times brighter than any other room in the house. I'm guessing I see things pretty much the way you do :-)

    400 Gal sunroom reef

I'll see what I can do on live eductor action. I just see lots of turbulence on the surface, and occasionally little whirlpools about. You can see some of it on the side shot. I've got a bunch of green chromis and squamapinnis anthias in it right now - a few corals - a couple of acro frags...

    400 Gal sunroom reef

Tank overflow is an external wier. 2 1-1/2" outputs go to the sump. You can see the return coming over the far side of the tank. You can also see one side of the close loop behind the rock. 2 eductors up top, 1 eductor blowing down. The tank has a lot of turbulence - I don't see anything settle.

    400 Gal sunroom reef

Stand Stand is built from 8 x 16 cinder block (concrete filled) and 8' long, 4" steel I beams. The tank sits on 1/2" pressure treated plywood, and a piece of 1/2 foam. The cement slab under the tank stand is about 10 - 12"

    400 Gal sunroom reef

and more This is the sump. It’s about 150 Gal acrylic – probably 100 Gal of water in it. The sump is set up as an Ecosystem Aquarium system - it has several chambers. the one you see with rock will ultimately have an acrylic sponge box in it (live sponge – requires little to no light and...

    400 Gal sunroom reef

OK - some pictures of the 400 Gal sunroom reef - I can't thank mojo enough for the help. Tank from front: 400 Gal glass tank - starfire front. 8' l x 32" w x 30 " h. Around 450 - 475 lbs of rock. No substrate on tank bottom. Tank from back. Couple of things to give you some idea around...

Glass or Acrylic ?? Vote Preference

Glass - Easier to clean and keep clean. Tougher to scratch than acrylic. I'd get thicker rather than thinner glass (I went 3/4" on my 400G).. I've had both - loved the look of the acrylic tank - but keeping sides clean was a nightmare.....

Where to get me tank drilled

I had a tank done at Sunset Glass in Bellevue. No guarantee, but they did a great job. You'd have to bring to them.

    Question for fuge users

More flow helps limit Cyano and gives better circulation throughout the fuge/sump.

    Sunroom Reef

Soon on the lights. They actually need to replace a few of the wooden sunroom beams (a few leaks and some rotting wood), so I'm not anxious to hang things and then remove them. They should be installing the new beams in the next week or so, shortly after that I'll put up the lights. Then of...

    Sunroom Reef

Patience my a$$. :-) Something no one has ever accused me of. Theres just soo many hours in the day - and I'm guessing I may have "redesigned" a few things a few times (plumbing was only 9 or so versions). That and perhaps I underestimated a little bit the scope of doing everything pretty much...

    Sunroom Reef

Thanks to everyone. I'm pretty excited (if not tired). I'm guessing from around March to November I'll get varying amounts of natural sunlight - of course that being a relative term here in Seattle area :-). Since around March 1st, the amount of sunlight the tank is receiving directly has...

    Looking for muscles....

My new 400G glass tank is coming this saturday (current plan looks like 12 noon to 1pm ish. I'm on the Eastside (Sammamish). If anyone would be able to help lift this monster (and it is a monster) out of the truck and onto the stand, I'm grilling some burgers, dogs and chicken and have beers...

Glass or Acrylic ?? Vote Preference

Glass - I've had both - and the thriving acrylic reef tank was WAY too much work to keep coralline and algae off the sides...

    Seattle Aquarium??

They do. There is a sign up fee to be able to get water, and there is a tap down there that you can go down and measure. It's water they are pumping in, so you need to check salinity very closely. A link: http://www.seattleaquarium.org/about/sales/ I haven't yet used it - but I know others...

    Looks good, WOW

Fonts look large to me as well... The work you've done on the site is awesome. Great job Chuck. I'm seeing the same thing Matt is - fonts look very large on my screen (1024 x 768 resolution on my screen) and Reef Central looks smaller...
