    ORA photo reference site

Nice website and great idea! I'll probably submit some photos. My pearlberry looks better than some of the ones shown :).

Anyone have any recommedations for a camera?

Personally I'd avoid the D40 and D60, as they both lack an autofocus motor in the body, so only lenses with the motor will autofocus. Granted, most lenses have it, but you'd be missing out on some great lenses like the 50mm 1.8, which is both fantastic and cheap. I use it for all my aquarium...

give me your thoughts on best 250W metal halide bulb

I run Reeflux 12k SE on my 120. I like it ok, but I think I may want something a little more blue to bring out my greens more. I've heard the Coralvue 20k is nice and actually has good PAR for a 20k bulb. I also like the look of the Helios 20k, which I think is what Barrier Reef uses on their...

Wow Dang, your setosa is getting big. I still have my frag from you, think I got it last summer. It got stung by a mille that a snail knocked over. Had some tissue recession from that but it's nearly fully recovered now. Beautiful coral.

Coraline build up - how do you clean the acrylic?

The easy blade attachment is not safe for acrylic. I have one that I use in my glass tank (works fantastic). Coralline algae is the biggest reason I switched from an acrylic to a glass aquarium. Scraping coralline off of an acrylic tank is an absolute nightmare and a lot of work. It's a piece of...

    How many watts per gallon?

I have and prefer MH, but I don't think it's necessarily the best. I've seen a lot of very nice looking tanks lit solely by T5. I do like that you can really tweak the colors a lot with T5 due to the fact that there are more bulbs in the system.

    How many watts per gallon?

I really think "watts per gallon" is an irrelevant measurement, unless we're talking about heaters and not lighting.

    Sony playstation for Blue Ray?

What makes you think you can't hookup your PC to your big HDTV in the living room and play games from the couch? Pretty much all HDTVs come with various inputs for connecting computers (DVI and VGA particularly). My TV is 2 years old and it has 2 DVI, 1 VGA, 2 Component, 1 Composite (crappy), 1...

help me on return pump for my new 125

I use an Eheim 1260 on my 120g, works great. Eheim pumps are known for quiet operation and reliability without generating much heat, which is why they're more expensive than Mag Drive pumps of the same power. The 1260 is only about 500 gph (with 4 feet of head) which is a bit low for my 120, but...

    Test Kit

The calcium tests from Elos and Salifert seem nearly identical to me in ease of use, steps involved and results. Add several drops of one reagent, then a scoop of purple powder, then add titration fluid until the color changes from purple to blue. Salifert gives more detail in the result though...

    Test Kit

I had a Salifert Alk test kit during the time when so many had problems with it. Mine gave results nearly identical to Elos' alk test kit. I wouldn't be so quick to write Salifert off. Their calcium test kit has always proven reliable for me, too.

Your magnesium is likely low if you never test it and don't dose magnesium. I know that Instant Ocean and Reef Crystals (and probably several other salts) are low in magnesium to begin with. I use Reef Crystals in my system. I believe Instant Ocean mixes up to around 1000-1100ppm magnesium...

    Nori to tangs

I use the standard suction cup clip and Ocean Nutrition Seaweed Selects. My powder blue tang, desjardini tang, potter's angel and melanurus wrasse all eat it right off the clip. My percula clowns will often eat the scraps generated by the others, but usually won't eat it off the clip. I believe...

    Great T5 Fixture Deal

I ordered a 24" unit yesterday. 4 bulbs with individual reflectors for $100. Awesome deal. Thanks for posting this.

I don't care if that coral has Tyree's name or not, it's damn nice looking. Coral names are so ridiculous these days.

    water conditions

Oops, missed that. I've never seen a test kit that measures nitrates in ppt. My mistake.

    water conditions

5 NO3 (nitrates) is not toxic to fish. It's in fact well within the safe levels. Even nitrites (NO2) are usually relatively harmless to fish in saltwater systems. I know that's different from freshwater where any nitrites present can be toxic to fish. NH3 (ammonia) is toxic, though. I agree...
