    Saltwater Newbie in New Mexico

Take your time Amber. You can have a very successful aquarium without either a sump or skimmer. There are lots of very knowledgeable folks on RF if/when you want to learn more about sumps and skimmers. Faithful water changes go a long way toward maintaining good water quality and being...

    Saltwater Newbie in New Mexico

Hey, you got a pic on way faster than I did, it took me almost a week. IMO a bio wheel isn't totally out of the question for corals, its just that a sump tank and protein skimmer are a better more efficient way to filter a tank with corals (which are much more sensitive to nitrates and high...

    Saltwater Newbie in New Mexico

Hi Scatterheart, welcome to RF and hang in there. You are not the first aquarist to struggle with the start up of a new tank. With a fish only tank you can lower the salinity as low as .019 conservatively, ( I've even gone lower) to discourage ich. I used to maintenance saltwater aquariums...

    Hello!

I had a devil's hand leather that fragged itself when it was first moved in my tank and after a while it settled and stopped and has never done it again.

    Aqueon 26 Bow Front

You are probably right about the gallbladder, maybe its cause I let him drink too much pop when he was a kid! LOL ...or maybe it just happened, nothing to do with ZOA's or pop.

    Aqueon 26 Bow Front

Yeap, that's exactly what happened to my zoa's. I also quit buying them. The ones you can't kill are really nice. I may make an exception if I see those at this end of the continent. I hear they are extremely toxic and should be handled with gloves. I never did and neither did my son and he...

    Aqueon 26 Bow Front

Everything looks so lush. Can one use "lush" in reference to corals? I like your selection of corals. You have nice colors plus the motion. Have you had the zoa 's long? Nice size colony but when I've had ZOA they mysteriously stopped opening and dwindled. I love them though when they look...

    Dawn's new 36 bowfront aquarium

It was hard. I had a gigantic anemone (I named him Absalom)my son gave me ( 12-14") for about 4 years and I knew he wouldn't fit in a smaller tank. I kept putting off downsizing because I was so fond of him and a Navarchus angel I had for about 6 years. Once I sold them then I was ready. I...

    Dawn's new 36 bowfront aquarium

I have helped several friends just cause I like aquascaping, but can't say that I've ever even been to Washington! Hope to make it on the motorcycle someday on my way to Alaska. I'll try to remember to throw my fish toolbox in the saddlebags!

    GSP maintenance... need to trim

I'm sure that will be awesome when it grows out and matures!

    Dawn's new 36 bowfront aquarium

Yes, an upgraded skimmer would be nice. The toys in this hobby aren't cheap so I may just have to make the Prizm work for now. Thanks for commenting on the aquascape. I'm an artist so the composition of the tank is real important to me. Also I maintenance tanks for a LFS for 5yrs so I got...

    Dawn's new 36 bowfront aquarium

What do you have now? My LFS where I used to work told me there is a rumor that All Glass may be phasing out the bow front line. That would really be a shame if they do.

    GSP maintenance... need to trim

I like GSP so the way I keep them under control is only let the grow on the substrate. That way you can cut the purple mat anywhere you like. I have a sand bed so I just use old scissors to cut them. They look like a tall grass field in the tank and its attractive.

    My 50

I have a purple tipped hammer that is coming back from being almost nipped to death by a Navarchus angel I had. mfinn's hammer corals are stunning! That stinks about the heater malfunction! I had that happen to me once too. A heater is one piece of equipment that I now replace immediately if I...
