Yes, it is also not likely that 1,000 supermodels will over run my system either. But I am hoping

I say, there is something always hatching in there. Biodiversity is an important factor which is why I add this stuff all the time

Things that went away on their own

I add from the sea amphipods, mud, snails, shrimp and seaweed like in this five gallon bucket. I added a bunch today. Think anything will hatch? I have been doing this since I started the tank.

Things that went away on their own

It seems that there are so many people in this hobby that are stressed every time they see something either growing or just appearing in their tanks. I figured I would post things that over the years just went away with no help from me. Hair algae. I have no idea when I took this picture but...

I picked up some more SPS frags to replace some of the corals I lost when I went to Europe. Some of the "Dead" ones still have some growth on them and seem to be doing fine. I really hate the look of frags and up until a few weeks ago I never had any. It is not the frags I dislike, it is that...

Today I went down to my marina because they just put my boat in the water and I needed to get there to clean it, start it and charge the batteries. The water is full of grass shrimp and amphipods so I netted a bucketfull and when I got hime, I threw them in my tank. I don't do this in the...

    Tank turned 41 years old

The thing keeps evolving by collapsing and being re built. I am sure all tanks go through this This is a fairly new gobi, I don't know what type it is and I am to lazy to look it up. You can also see a red scooter bleeny above his tail. I love this stuff

Kriv, you can see it here with the strip of LEDs over it. It is just a Home Depot PVC fence post that I sliced about two inches off to make a trough, or channel. It is positioned above the water and is about 3/4" higher on the intake side. It is important to have the lower end just touching...

    Tank turned 41 years old

I was looking at the tank today (with the top opened) and I saw a spark, then another one, then another, then the LED strip over my algae trough sputtered and started to melt and smoke. The thing melted through the acrylic tube I had it attached to. Cheap LED strip from China. Luckily it was 6"...

I see the copperband and he seems fine. The yellow wrasse that was sick seems cured. I can see all the other fish but I have not noticed the bluestriped pipefish yet but he sleeps late so I think he will show up. I need to trim the dead parts off the corals and see what the damage is as the...

    Tank turned 41 years old

I just got back from a week in Europe. We were on a riverboat cruise from Budapest to Vienna, Munich and Hungary. Had a great time but when I got home I see the water in my reef is down about 7" and some corals are above the water and of course dead. I lost a few corals but not entire corals. My...

I don't know what happened to that yellow tang but now he seems fine. The swelling is way down, almost normal, the dark spot is faded and he is swimming normally. Last week all he could do was swim in spirals while crashing into things and not being able to eat very well. I have seen this...

After moving this all over the tank, getting bit to death and breaking a few pieces off this and other corals, I realize there is no room for this acropora. I temporarilly put it on this rock but it is just about out of the water and not sitting well. When I get time I need to do a major rock...

    Tank turned 41 years old

I had to re design slightly my algae trough. The LEDs I had over it just were not bright enough so I got a strip of LEDs that are about twice as bright. When I had MH lights the trough used to get the spill light but the LEDs are more directional so I had to add supplimental light to the...

I changed my mind and will autopsy this fish as I have found out the cause of the wierd swimming. Kind of. The fish now has a dark lump on both sides. This is a fairly common malady and I always thought it came from some type of trama like getting bitten from something large or having a rock...

    Feeding Stations

Dwarf seahorses can and do live on baby brine shrimp. It should work well for them but I would make an upright model like my seahorse feeder only with smaller mesh.

    Feeding Stations

There are pictures of it on this thread, it is just a container with a mesh over it and a tube going to the surface. On the tube, over the surface is a small funnel. The mesh size has holes in it the same size as baby brine shrimp so the shrimp can just about get through but you want most of...

    Feeding Stations

I am happy to say that in the 5 or 6 weeks since I installed this baby brine shrimp feeding station my skinny little female mandarin fattened up nicely and is now bordering on plump. The first picture is when I got her, you can see her sides pinched in, especially under her dorsal fin and she...
