    Facinating occurance

I have this bubble algae growing in a few places in my tank and in some places it is very heavy. I am not worried about it and kind of like it, but anyway, I noticed that it is just growing on my home made cement rock or the cement on bottles and none of it is growing on any real rock. It...

    Feeding and growth of LPS

Never happened yet. When I feed the corals I just get the food in the clear part and squirt it in. I only fill the thing completely when I am feeding mysis or some other small stuff like worms.

    Feeding and growth of LPS

I freeze a chowder clam then with a sharp knife I shave small slivers off of it. Then I shoot the pieces towards the mouths with a baster. I use one of these

    Feeding and growth of LPS

I was just looking through some pictures from a couple of years ago and I noticed the progression of one of my Euphyllia type of corals. These are an easier type of coral to keep but I didn't realize it had grown so much because I see it every day. I think this first picture is about 3 years...

    Fried bristleworm

Yesterday I watched a 4" bristle worm get cozy with the glass heater. He wrapped around it like a boa constrictor and seemed comfortable. Then the heater came on and bristle worms are not really good jumpers so he fried. The arrow crab who loves fried foods walked over and unwrapped the worm...

    Tank turned 41 years old

My 5' algae trough just about fell into the tank. It was so full of hair and other algae's that it filled up with water and became too heavy for the flimsy acrylic angles that I had holding one side of it to the side of the top rim. I remove the entire thing to make new (flimsy) angles. I...

    Interesting growth on rocks

No, but I would have to kill you. It seems I am not the only one with this cool algae.

    Interesting growth on rocks

I love it when something new grows in my tank, even if it is something that many people think is a plague. I just find it interesting. This is the stuff that stirs my interest in this lifelong hobby. This stuff started growing on my rocks a few months ago and at first I thought it was some...

    Tank turned 41 years old

I took some pictures. I can't get a full tank shot because the tank is so long and shallow. I love this algae although most people would not

    Tank turned 41 years old

Today I added a small female mandarin in the hopes my male will find her attractive, or at least cute. She is too small to mate but they grow quickly. I am pretty sure she is a female but at this size it is harder to tell. My male does not yet seem to be excited as he just displays his dorsal...

    Love of the hobby

I used to love it when the freshwater fish would spawn but I really only tried to breed the wierder ones. I liked to breed betts's with their bubble nest and some of the mouthbreeders. Angelfish with the slanted piece of slate or flowerpot you had to put in there. Then it was fun to try to...

    Love of the hobby

I also live on an Island but it is quite different from where you live Krish. I have been all through the Bahamas as well as most of the Caribbean and South Pacific. I love them all for different reasons. In the Bahamas I remember spending an hour throwing baby burrfish back into the sea as...

    Love of the hobby

Getting into this hobby was easy for me. My family owned a seafood business and I grew up playing with dead fish so it was natural for me to start a tank. Of course at 2 or 3 years old I needed a little help. On fridays my Dad would bring me to the Fulton Fish Market in Manhattan which was...

    Algae Problem

In a tank as new as yours this is perfectly normal. It doesn't always happen but it usually does. Eventually the tank will settle down and you should not have this problem. It is more of a new tank problem so don't get discouraged.

    natural sea water vs. homemade

I live in New York and started my tank with NSW. I still use a portion of it almost every water change and if it were not so heavy, I would never think of using fake water. All of your animals came from NSW, none of them came from ASW. I don't worry about pollution, paracites, diseases or...
