I bought most of mine from a now defunct internet store. However, Blue Sierra in Issaquah WA had several black reidi for sale at $59.99 last weekend. Marine Depot Live has some as well but beware, they withhold shipment without calling you leaving you waiting for a delivery that doesn't...

Unbelievable. I get up for more coffee after posting above, and find white stringly fecal matter protruding from the very last reidi in the hospital tank. This is the most common symptom for Hexamita protozoan infection, and I had not seen it previously. I put some under the microscope, and...

I wanted to update everybody on my unsuccessful battle against the bug that hit my seahorse tank. I have lost 13 of 18 seahorses, all farm-raised reidi. The survivors are a different, unknown species and include a mother and her three young that I successfully raised (dad died from internal...

    Ozone Reactor

Sorry, can't advise much here, I have the same problem. I hooked up my Red Sea ozonator (just like yours) to an AquaC EV-180 skimmer via the John Guest fitting, but the JG fitting dissolved in a matter of weeks. I asked the JG people about this and they said none of their fittings were ozone...

    Purple Ribbon Gorg. shedding

I have one healthy Gorgonia that sheds all the time. The problem I have had with all Gorgonias is that they need to be in relatively high current or else they get overgrown with algae. It seems to me the shedding would only help keep the algae away.

No, one of the recently expired did recently have internal gas bubble disease both in the pouch and the metabolically-active tail. I have been working on him with a 28-gauge syringe and had him okay when this new problem developed. I even had ordered some Diomox (carbonic anhydrase inhibitor...

I forgot to add that I also got a horribly infected thumb during all this. I have always battled coral infections in my loving (?) cat's minor scratches, but this is something much more. I suspect I have the same infection in my thumb that is killing my seahorses. Talk about family...

I am so sad to report that I caught some kind of bug in my main adult seahorse tank, and they are dying left and right. It is horrible to watch them convulse, gasp, and die within a few hours of showing any symptoms. It all started last night when I discovered my largest and most beautiful...

Where to buy Live Plants/Algae such as Ulva?????

I bought some beautiful red and green Gracilarias from Florida Aqua Farms. It arrived quickly and packaged professionally. I even contacted them several months later with a question on lighting and pigmentation and they were very helpful.

mistake you dont want to admit

I also bought a red goniopora from Petco 4 years ago, and it is still going strong. People tell me that is amazing.... I also bought a big canister filter for my new reef tank. Want to buy it? Cheap! Lots of bioballs also available.

Kate: I have a big male ready to pop any day now, and would share some fry if you would like to try your system. Just remember me when you are rich and famous! I met Addie (sp?) Rhodes of Essential Live Foods (aka Ocean Pods, one of our sponsors) at the PSAS meeting this weekend. She has...

    Can anyone spare some cheato?

I have a bunch too if you ever need it. I throw out about $50 a week, but it is definately industrial grade, with a little bit of unsightly red hair and other macaroalgae and other stuff dispersed inside of it. Lots of pods though. Once you establish a refugium you will understand......

    Hydroids problem

The free swimming medusa stage of hydroids sting and kill baby seahorses, plus compete for their food (baby brine shrimp). I have lost entire seahorse hatches of 50+ to them. I kill on sight.

how many times u feed fish during a week?

I have seahorses which don't have stomachs since they snick a shrimp every hour or so in nature. I can't feed a little bit every hour, so had been feeding once a day at dinnertime. They were healthy and running around okay. But when I recently started coming home for lunch everyday and now...

In short, after probably 15-20 birthing episodes, I have been totally unable to keep reidi fry alive longer than a few days. I just got 65 more this morning and put them in the nursery. My adult males are continously pregnant so I have an ample supply for research. The 3 young seahorses I...

    Ozone+UV?

One of the reasons to plumb ozone to the skimmer is that the ozone gets broken down by all the agitation. That keeps it from entering the aquarium, or worse, your living room. When my hose connection was degraded by ozone, and ozone was leaking into the aquarium cabinet, I could certainly...

    Anthias with taste for Gorgonians!

My seahorses are getting pretty lazy, and are chasing the mysis shrimp around less and less, instead prefering to pick it off the gorgonias and nylon screen over the internal overflow. The problem is that means more mysis are getting past them and feeding the bristleworms. I wondered if they...

A word about Damsels.. (Caution! May be slightly graphic.)

Last year I spent several Saturday nights (with too much wine) fishing with a bare treble hook in my reef tank. I finally snagged my bully damsel, and fed him to my very happy crabs. I guess I am just a party animal on the weekends.....

    Oregon trip

Thanks for the update, I guess I haven't been down there for a few weeks. A guy named Shaun that used to work at Waves now works at Hollywood, at least I have seen him there twice. Probably a mistaken identity or wrong Sean.....Whoever he is he sold me my first seahorses a few years ago!

    Oregon trip

Living in Olympia, I routinely hit all the Portland LFS about every 2-3 weeks. Sorry I didn't catch this thread earlier. Waves either moved or went out of business, and is no longer on Lower Boones Ferry. Too bad. However, Hollywood Aquarium just relocated to right around the corner from the...
