DIY LED build machined from billet alluminum

Thanks Todd! I hope it turns out well. If so I might make one for my tank too. My buddy and I both have the same Oceanic Illuminata tanks.

DIY LED build machined from billet alluminum

Here's my new project. It's a custom machined LED light I am making for a friend of mine. He will take care of the wiring. I don't have the specifics on all the LEDs that he is using. The power supplies will be mounted in a nearby cabinet. The light and brackets will all be hard flash anodized...

    Help with identifying an anemone

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll ask my wife for a laser for Christmas! For now I will try the boiling water and lemon juice. Hopefully that will keep them away for a little while so I can scratch up some cash for a "friggin laser beam" (Spoken like Dr. Evil).

    Help with identifying an anemone

I have read about several ways to get rid of them. 1. Kalk paste 2. Injecting then with vinegar 3. Majano Wand 4. Injecting them with lemon juice. 5. 1 watt laser pointer 6. Soaking them in CA glue Does anyone have any opinions on what works best?

    Help with identifying an anemone

That's what I was afraid of. There was 1 very small one on the rock when I bought it, but now there are 4 that are about 3/4" in diameter.

I've looked around a bit and believe this may be a Majano. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

    Gary's Oceanic Illuminata 57 build

I ended up getting the ATI Sunpower Dimmable light fixture. For mounting, I had some tubes bend and black anodized. The vertical supports behind the tank aren't anodized as I wanted to get the placement correct. To me it looks like a lifeboat on a ship. I'm going to hang it directly from the...

Help with identifying some live rock stow-a-ways

Nope. No move or large water changes. The Firefish reappeared yesterday and looked good. It seemed to be breathing hard (this may have been a normal breathing rate, but I don't know for sure). But, today I found it on the bottom half eaten.

    Greeeaat power outage

I had a couple shrimps and a fish go MIA recently too. I rearranged the rock work and sifted through the sand and didn't find a thing either. Weird! EDIT - The Firefish just reappeared. Now all that is missing is a Peppermint and a Cleaner shrimp.

Help with identifying some live rock stow-a-ways

Thanks for the suggestions. I've been doing weekly water tests and everything is stable. pH 8.1, nitrates 0, nitrites 0, ammonia 0, PO4 0, Ca 400, KA 6 (I'm trying to raise this slowly) Temp 79°, salinity 1.025. The Firefish went missing the day that my Orange Spot Goby jumped out of the tank. I...

Help with identifying some live rock stow-a-ways

Cool. Thanks for the advice. I put the Peanut Worm and the Pistol Shrimp back in the tank. Any idea what happens to things that just up and disappear? There were no traces of the shrimp or the fish.

Do you think that the Peanut Worm ate my missing shrimps and fish?

Help with identifying some live rock stow-a-ways

Thanks for the quick reply tat2z_21! I slapped my forehead when I read Pistol Shrimp. It seems that the Peanut Worm is not a bad thing and neither is the Pistol Shrimp. Would you put them back in the tank?

Help with identifying some live rock stow-a-ways

My son and I rearranged the layout of the tank tonight and decided that there was one piece of rock that we didn't like. For fun, we busted it up with a hammer. This is what we found. This rock was about the size of a softball. Also, recently a Peppermint shrimp, Scarlet Skunk Shrimp and a...
