    Fish in danger from urchins?

Yes it could be fatal. With any puncture there is a chance of infection. If it hits the liver, toxins will flood the bloodstream and your fish will be dead by the end of the day. If its hits the swim bladder, your fish could live a few days but swim bladder damage will not heal. Because your...

ways to remove pest anemones without killing them?

Your best bet is just to remove the rock its on. If you want to keep the rock, then you could remove it, cut the anemone off and then burn the stump remaining on the rock so it doesn't spread. Some of them will die and some will live but its the only way I can see to remove aiptasia or mojanos...

    Cloudy Eye Firefish

The first thing I was thinking was water quality as well. I agree on the Furacyn. Rid Ich will also kill the paracites, but dont mix the medication.

How do i clean my sand???

Alot of websites and databases don't mention that large grain sand is not safe for sand sifters. You should also avoid adding crushed coral and should remove tiny bits of rock if you see them because they will kill your gobies.

How do i clean my sand???

Well it depends what you have. You should NEVER turn a deep sand bed because it would ruin all the reasons why you have a DSB, unless you want to effectively create chaos in your tank. If you have a few inches of sand for show or for your livestock, its okay to turn your sand as well as it is...

very small white sponges or Aiptasia

I've had them as well. They wont last long after you get some critters in the tank. I've never had one larger than a dime.

    Fish in danger from urchins?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but urchins cannot raise, lower or eject their spines. They're there purely for defensive purposes. Your fish would have to go after then and hurt themselves in the process. I wouldn't add them for 2 reasons. You obviously really love your fish, some of them...

How do i clean my sand???

He has a new tank and I think he just meant how does he get rid of the brown algae on his sand. If you keep your sandbed clean, manually or by animals then you shouldn't have a big problem with it. I had a Dragon Goby that was pretty awesome at turning the sand but I mostly did it by hand.

The smaller the tank, the more vigilance is required. Small mistakes can equal big problems if you're not careful, but you'll save money on equipment I guess. You can get away without having a protein skimmer if you dont have livestock to produce the organic waste skimmers remove. So basically...

    Help with Zoos

The clam wouldn't have affected anything. Even if his frag tank water was poor, once you put them into good water they would have been alright. As long as you transfered them properly. If they got the devil shocked out of them during the move, then they would be pretty stressed. You can buy...

    making zoos spread quicker

If you want a colony of zoo's to spread around the tank, you could point a powerhead at them. They will detach from their rock and blow around the tank until they settle. Best done in a q/t so you can place them where you want in the display. I'm not sure what to do if you just want them to...

Films of green and red algae

I've never seen green cyano, so I'm thinking its film algae. Your nitrates are too high and your Ph is too low. It was either already there when you got the tank or sprouted when large amounts of gunk and nutrients were suspended into the water colum during the move. I would have replaced the...

back from diving in Hawaii (and an osmolator question)

Amazing isn't it? I absolutely love the schools of Convict Tangs and I never get tired of scubba here. Everytime I go out I thinking about buying 3 or 4 Convict Tangs and a few Yellow Tangs for my tank :)

    First time reefer

Tough question! hehe Before you set up your tank, you have to decide if you want to go sump or hang-on-the-back methods for equipment. If you decide to go with the sump, you also have to decide whether to drill your tank or use an external overflow box. Before you choose your lights, you have...

    is aiptasia really bad?

Yeah if you want 2nd degree burns on your fingers:). If you are going to use boiling water I would go with a turkey baster or one of those syringes without needle they use for babies and livestock. The needle is more for directly inserting chemicals into the animal. The needle is sharp and...
