    CNC for acrylic projects

Don, I also have a CNC router but I purchased it. I was wondering, what feed speeds can attain with that machine and how accurate is it at high speed?

    Acrylic Tank Repair

I would drill out the end of the crack then lay a bead of Weld On 40 down filling in the crack and the drill hole. WO 16 isn't as strong and anything else would just run out of the crack anyway.

Bum chiller or just high of expectations?

Ok people, there is no need to rant and rave at the manufacture about this. Let’s look at it from a mathematical point of view. There are available from these types of chillers 12,000 BTU’s per 1 horse power. A BTU is a British Thermal Unit, this is the amount of energy it takes to raise or...

Bum chiller or just high of expectations?

Jeff, You're chiller sounds like its working properly. These chillers only have a 1 degree temperature drop through them at design conditions. Also, Dr Foster's is right. A 1/3 HP chiller will be able to keep 250 gallons of water 15 degrees below ambient temperature. What they are not informing...

    Becoming a statistic

A friend here had some corals die off or at least start to die off last year. He found that the city had started adding some things to the water that the RO-DI wasn't getting out very well. ( I can't remember what though) Its just a thought. I would also check out whether the are any heavy...

    UV Sterilizer......pros and cons ?

I feel that a UV sterilizer is just as important as a protein skimmer or any other forms of filtration out there. I lost about $400 worth of fish due to ich and have since added a UV sterilizer to my tank. Just recently I added an Achilles Tang (after qt for 3 months) and it came down with ich...

    Another Skimmer

I was asked to build a prototype dual stage skimmer. Here is what I came up with for my tank. After a week in operation I must confess that this monster works awsome. The overall size is 77" tall, mixing box is 24x14x31 tall. I drive the air in with a piston pump (80watt) and have used the...

Stainless Steel, how bad is it?

After making the above post I have been asked some very good questions via PM’s. So here is my response. Chloride stress corrosion can best be described as the fracturing of the metal when exposed to chlorides. This condition is typically found in high temperature environments, i.e. the process...

Stainless Steel, how bad is it?

Actually, Hastalloy, Inconel, and Titanium are about the best for saltwater use. The problem with stainless is the nickel interaction with the chlorides, I'm sure you've heard of chloride stress corrosion? In high temp applications it's a real problem, not much of one at out tank temps though...

    No skimmer system

I think what I'm getting from this thread is that a person can do whatever is within their budget as long as they are willing to work for it. The amounts of algea I have seen in the "display" tanks here would never make it in my tank. That is to unslightly and I would do my best to fix the problem.

The Skimming beast is dead....Long live beast ver 2

Rick, The next skimmer I have on the drawing boards will run about 800 GPH with the 180+ second dwell time. As we discussed on the phone last night that makes for a mixing chamber of at least 45 gallons. (with baffles) I'll start cutting acrylic this weekend on Sunday if you want to take a look.
