    Treated for Red Bug yesterday.

Over the next few weeks I will be logging the health of two particular corals that were damaged by the bugs. The first, a frag that never fully polyps and has a whitish color near the bottom. The second used to be a 6” colony that was repeatedly trimmed down to the current 1” frag due to...

    Treated for Red Bug yesterday.

I know there have been a lot of posts about this but this one has pictures! :D Quick question right of the bat. What is the current thought/trend in 2nd and 3rd doses. The procedure is 2 years old. Have people been successful with just one treatment? ~3:00pm - air to skimmer off, UV turned...

Interceptor on the puget sound penninsula

Thanks Ed. That's right. I did find a local vet that was more than willing to supply me with the medication. I asked him if I could use him as a source and he was willing, now that he is aware of the problem. Once I am done dosing and report back to him, I will tell where I got it. The big...

Interceptor on the puget sound penninsula

Any one had any luck getting this red bug "cure" on the penninsula? I am looking for a vet that may be aware of the need so I don't have to explain what it is for.

    Lighting - T6 Ultimate Reef

When I was doing a search for T5 recently I came up with these. Looks like the manufacturer is quantum and they offer other color temps than the "ultimate reef" which really doesn't tell you anything about the bulb except that the manufacturer thinks they are "the perfect blended light source...

Need a lighting expert to verify this please.

Well I am getting tired of spending money on crap that doesn't work. I do have great growth but I also have 1400W (rated) over the tank. I am replacing the crappy PC lights every 6 months at $30 each and MH every 12 months at $70 each...plus shipping I am somewhere around $520 / year on light...

Need help with odd bleaching events.

I am tagging along here. I am having a few problems with my SPS as well but have attributed it to unstable alkalinity which got down to 3 at one point. I run my MH 12 hours a day and have never thought that is too long so I am interested to see what people say here. Honestly I think you...

Need a lighting expert to verify this please.

Ah-ha...Thank you very much for the link on RC to Grim's data. I am only through page 1 and it is very enlightening. That is what I am looking for...facts. Well off to read some more.

Need a lighting expert to verify this please.

Well I will post more questions as this becomes more complex. The old me would just go out and order a 12 bulb setup and call it good...that's why I am broke. I found references to lumens per watt for T5 lamps and MH bulbs. T5's average 90-100 lumens/w MH average 80 lumens/w So initially...

Need a lighting expert to verify this please.

Anywhere that has the PAR ratings on the bulbs? I can't find anything. I imagine finding PAR on a 3ft bulb is a bit of a challenge but I am sure someone has done it. A point source like a MH would concentrate the light and look brighter than a 3ft bulb but the 3 ft bulb "puts out" over the...

Need a lighting expert to verify this please.

I am only seeing a 4ft 54W bulb out there. Is that as big as they come. What is a good source for reading the pros and cons of the T5?

Need a lighting expert to verify this please.

zoomfish - you wouldn't happen to have a used up CV10K bulb lying around as a spare would you? I would pay shipping both ways to borrow it and check it out. reefdaddy - I am trying to get away from using any flourescent lights on the system. They just need to be replaced too often...because...

Need a lighting expert to verify this please.

According the Sanjay's site. 53 ppfd on an M58 ballast for a Hamilton 14K. Even less than the XM 15K. They are 99 ppfd on and HQI ballast but that is at 331 watts. What kills me is the 20K bulbs are brighter at the same wattage. Is there something wrong with the test setup for the 15K bulb...

Need a lighting expert to verify this please.

I am trying to find the most bang for the buck when it comes to lighting. I currently have 250W M58 (raw) ballasts pushing XM 10K bulbs and in theory am getting 137 ppfd / bulb according to Sanjay's research. (I have great sps growth currently) Now I was trying to supliment the 10K's by using...

    New Project 120

Very nice indead. I'm impressed at how that system looks now. Good looking sand...sand blasting sand? Remember, with that sand, you'll want to be aware of fish that like to dig, (some clowns, triggers) because they make a mess. Nice looking closed loop too. Did that rock cycle at all? Travis

    Tank hood/ lighting

Hey Jason, that hood as you know used to have 250's in it and temperature was not much of a problem for the guy who owned it. He did have AC in his house though which helped in the summer months. Tough call but as long as you make the cover removable, with some kind of thumb screw maybe, I...

    Help with new Dragonette

There's 150# in a 50gal...IMO that is more than enough. I have 200# in a 180 with about 40# in a fuge. Matching flow from a siphon to a return pump is a bit&*...If you don't pump it back fast enough, water on the floor, pump it back too fast, and the pump runs dry. Power goes out and your...

    Help with new Dragonette

Let me just say again, there is no reason for a refugium with that much rock and only one major pod eater, that being said, thet are nice for macro algae and another "cool" tank. I used to watch mine more than the main tank. Hard to help with the design without knowing your sump setup...not...

    Help with new Dragonette

I obviously write slowly...only one post when I started mine. Local store should have them. http://www.oceanreefaquatics.com/ Call Mario first to see if he has them.
