    Rockford Frag Fest

I will put it on my calendar. Rockford is about 2 hours for me, but it sounds like it might be worth it.

    Tank Wiped Out

Very sorry to hear about your loss. I hope all goes well if you decide to redo the tank.

    Zoo relocation

When I was new to the hobby I knew corals had toxins but didn't realize zoo's were worse than others. I was cleaining my tank and I had a rock with over 500 zoo polyps (quit counting after 500) and my inner forearm kept touching them. After a few minutes one of my legs kept twichting, and my...

    Fish compatibility question

OK I have had the clam a month or so. So far so good. My home computer is broke so I haven't been able to put up any pics yet. There are on the way though.

    Growth shot

I am feeding just about everything. I have a yellow cup, fungia, acro, montipora, pavona, tubestrea, several types of trachy brain, maze brain, hydronaphora, zoo's, 6 different types of shrooms, ricordia, cabbage leather (almost gone finally), green spaghetti leather, a couple colors of lobo...

    Growth shot

I'm shocked so many people on here know what glutamine is. I am going to try something similiar, but without the oysters. I am goint to start adding a little glutamine to the zoo/phyto mix I feed and see if that has any effect. I get 2 lbs of pure glutamine for $54 so it's pretty cheap. The...

    Power Sweep-power head

Well I feel lucky then that mine kept sweeping for about 7 months!! LOL. The two I bought are still working, just no longer sweep. I was considering buying another now that I have some Acro, but this thread pretty much knocked that idea out of my head.

    help keeping sps corals

I agree with Don. It's challenging, but possible to keep all types together. Even under the best conditions where all specimans are healthy, each will still not grow up to its full potential. Due to ignorance I have been keeping them all together now for some time (2+ years) The only death...

    MH lighting advice

I run 2x250W MH and I am about 7" above the water. I too use the glass shield. I figured it does lower lumens a bit, but I have plenty of lighting either way. It does prevent a problem however. I have actaully seen a tank where water hit the bulb, bulb exploded, glass everywhere in the tank...

    help keeping sps corals

I am in the process of doing this switch over and will let you guys know if I run into any significant problems. I have removed all softies from one side of my tank, and replaced them over time with a LG pavona, LG montipora, LG yellow cup, maze brain, trachy brain, orange tubestra, purple...

    water movement

I have a 75 as well and I have 1 heavy duty powerhead and 2 small powerheads. Sorry not sure how much they flow as I got them all used. From my experience I would guess the big one flows 400-500 gph and the smaller ones 100 gph. So I am only turning over my tank 8-10x per hour. I just got my...

    snails and algea

My yellow tang and clean up crew tear up calerpa. I've tried to add it twice to my tank and both times it lasted less than 48 hours.

    Question about mushrooms

Yeah I know ricordias split, I was trying to make a funny. I just seems like sometimes the common ones will overgrow tanks, but I've never met any one who is like man I have hundreds of Ricordia that just took over my tank?!? I do have some interesting red regular antidiscus that get to 6" I...

    flouro lighting question

This tank is up and cycling!! We ended up going with a 29G. The tank I had so that was free. I saved water from my WC for the intitial fill up. He for now is going to use 5 20W grow light flouro's he had around the house. We were donated a 175W MH ballast. He will eventually buy a bulb and...

    Question about mushrooms

Just the cheap mushrooms split on the own J/K I have a beatiful orange ricordia that just refuses to split. I have a green hairy that I bought loose of a tank bottom for $1 about 2 years ago and I now have over 60 of them. If only the ricordia would have grown 60 babies!!!

    New tank setup question

The starfish is a chocalate chip star so I doesn't eat much detritus. It would prefer to eat soft corals, but is hand fed a small piece of scallop/clam or such like every 3rd day. The live rock was all either from a tank in house or from my tank which is 45 minutes away. So the LR really...

    tunicates&sponges

I used to have a Koran Angel in my reef. He loved to eat sponges!!! And he would sometimes pick at "meaty" brain corals, and softies. Eventually he had to go. But if for some reason you want to get rid of sponges a Koran is a good choice.

    Fish compatibility question

Purchased a 2.5" squamosa on Saturday. Had been in stock for a little over 2 weeks. He had 2 squamosa and 3 crocea, this one seemed to have the best mantle/colors, and the best response to movement. I got him for $35 so the price seemed right. Also it is aquacultured so that is a plus. I...

    New tank setup question

At the 1 week mark the following was added 1 chocholate chip star 1 emerald crab 1 giant turbo snail It has now been just over 2 weeks since set up. The 2 initial fish as well as the inverts above are still doing well. I am hoping to get over there this week some time and test the water...
